    Suggestions requested, please.

You may have picked up that I don't have a lot of enthusiasm for most popular Christian music. But now I have a dilemma: one of my band members wants to play some music by Christian artists that's not quickly identifiable as "Christian". Uplifting but not overtly religious, that we could play for secular audiences without coming off as a "Christian" band. And he'd like us to do a lot of it.

I'm reeeeallly trying to be open minded and positive to this idea.

Here's where you come in: can you think of anything that fits the description? But good. Something crossover perhaps, because we all know audiences won't listen long to songs they've never heard.

Thanks in advance for any help you can give.

lol. Just reminded me. I play classical guitar a lot.

I played (and sang) Panis Angelicus at a coffee house last year. (No one understands Latin anymore:))

Can you play guitar like Mark Tremonti?

There are some Creed songs that fit the bill, and that people know, like With Arms Wide Open, One, Are You Ready, and Higher.

    Sweet. Very sweet.

I'm not a Creed fan but I'll give those a listen. Thanks for the suggestion!

There are plenty of secular bands who have done spirituals over the years...and rocked them.
Stones...You Gotta Move, Gimme Shelter a la Ashley Cleveland
Albert King....Everybody Wanna Go To Heaven
    Jeff Beck/Rod Stewart...People Get Ready

    ...and the list goes on.

I know a drummer whose church plays John Mayer songs.

Check out albums (do we still call them that?) Continuum, Where the Light Is, and Battle Studies. Some of his relatively recent singles could fit the bill too.

If you do some Americana, Johnny Cash "Redemption" is a cool one to do. We used to do it several times a year, but we did it like a cross between Cash and Albert King.

    U2, " I Will Follow"

Brad Paisley's acoustic version of "When We All Get to Heaven"

There are couple of Chris Stapleton songs that would be interesting. Daddy Doesn't Pray Anymore is one with an interesting twist. There are a few songs by Mac Powell and the Family Reunion that are fun too.

The first time I heard Need to Breathe I said, "finally a christian band I'd want to play in".

But there's the problem noted by the OP that people don't want to listen to unfamiliar songs.

    +1 for Mayer and Kravits.

JJ Grey and Mofro have some stuff worth looking into.
    Johnny Lang has plenty.

Of course "Ripple" is about the pool of Siloam, where Jesus healed a blind man.

Are you looking for performance songs or congregational singing songs?

There is a LOT of absolutely KILLER stuff out there from some pretty openly Christian bands that might surprise you.
One that is a true super group would be Revolution Saints check this stuff out!!

They have a brand new Album dropping soon here is a clip.

Something a little heaver and more radical maybe?

    Or
