Hi! Has anyone compared the two? I’m looking for Mike Campbell, Black Crowes, and Blackberry Smoke type tones. Thoughts?

I can only speak for the Phat. It's one of the settings on my Cav Hydra. It's almost 10k. A5
mag. Thick sounding, but it retains a Tele bridge pickup character.

OP, I'd email Rob & state what you want. He's very knowledgeable & stands behind his products.

Good luck! 👍

I've had the Fat and an overwound Nocaster (I think it was around 11.5k). I did a video demo of it somewhere on my channel.

Honestly, I liked the Fat better between those two...but I think I would prefer a regular Nocaster or 51/52 to the Fat. It depends what you're looking for. Now I like lower wind A3 pickups (I just got a Don Mare Hot Bakelite), but when I had the Fat Lion set I was looking for good pickups for jazz mainly and they worked great for that. The Hot Bakelites are more of an all-around lifer set.

I liked the Fat Lion King better than the regular Lion King. I was looking for a particular thing with the FLK and it nailed it. For a more traditional tele neck pickup, the LK wasn't quite there for me. Don't get me wrong, it was a great pickup, but it wasn't what I was looking for. If I were buying again today, I'd probably look at the Wolf, She Wolf or one of the Lioness models.

Rob has so many great pickups. I'm sure you'll be able to find something that works for you. Call or email him. He's really approachable and helpful. At the end of the day, sometimes you just have to pull the trigger and try something in your guitar, play with it for awhile, experiment with pickup heights, etc and see if it fits or not. I've tried a LOT of pickups, but I REALLY like what I have now. In my other tele I still have the FLK neck, but have a Bootstrap bridge wound similar to a Fender PV '64. Hard to go wrong with any of those three winders (Mare, Bootstrap or Cavalier). All great guys and great pickup makers.

I used a Fat Lion in my 2020 Brotherhood Build Tele - and a Nocaster Holy Grail in my 2021 Brotherhood Build Esquire

They are both great pickups, but if I had to choose just one, it would be the Nocaster

I think it's more responsive to variations in pick attack for one thing - and it has a little more chime and sparkle for another

This is just what I hear, and for what it's worth, my opinion ;)

As far as sound or tone - I think you'd be best off to listen to the sound clips or demos of Rob's pickups

Visual Guy or RocknfknRoll Mike Nix have some pretty good ones

I think these two are very close. And maybe tied for my favourite voicing of Cav Lions.

Agree with others to check with Rob and describe what you are looking for, but I think either will get you there.
