After a long peiod of inactivity, I recently joined a band and found that I now sweat like crazy at band practice. But it is this eye-burning, paint peeling, acidic sweat that covers my gear in gunk and will probably eventually wear away parts of the finish.

I'm wondering what others that might have this problem do? Do any of you wear sweat bands when you play, around your forehead or forearms? Do those terrycloth arm bands scratch your guitars? Will people make fun of me for looking like a fat, has-been tennis pro if I don a red and white striped headband at shows?

it could be more functional than wearing a blue and red checkered badly fitted used cars salesman suit, but I really think that you would get more responce from wearing white tites and a red (very 80's) leotard excersise spaggetti strap thingy, of course you will need leg warmers and sneekers, but cargo shrots and bumched wife beater tees go a long way as well, you do realize none of this will help you sweat problem , but will look interesting on stage.

Jeff beck used baby powder for his hands, most pro bands have hand towels on stage to wipe them selves down, at least for any concert set ups I have done. from Black Crowes to Kiss

Some people don't know this, but antiperspirants work in many other places than the arm pits...
LOL, what places exactly.

Since I started drinking more water my sweat doesn't burn my eyes and when I cut an onion my eyes don't burn as much if at all depending on the onion of course. I've noticed I can take the extreme heat much better too. It's all in the diet I suppose.

The solution to pollution is dilution.

Acidic is the opposite of caustic.
Your sweat can not be both.
Believe me, I am the chemist.
Have you measured the pH?

I think you should charge other people, who want their guitars reliced, to play their guitars. Tell 'em you can do the job quickly. Charge top dollar.

The leader of our band plays acoustic and his sweat is soooo caustic.

If he breaks a string and has to use one of my guitars as a backup I can kiss my strings goodbye. His Breedlove is 10 years old and already looks like "Trigger" after 20! It's unreal!!

Speaking of antiperspirant, one guitarist friend of mine had the sweat problem. Then it turned out that his brother had a nickel allergy. It turned out that he was allergic to the aluminum in the antiperspirant. The result was more sweating. He changed to deodorant, and the excessive sweating stopped.

It's up to you to make what ever you wear, look cool!

You need to take the litmus test as an experiment.... ;)

I wonder if there's something you could change in your diet to neutralise the sweat either way?..
