Hey there,

I have a lap steel I want to place on a stand to play.

Does anyone here have a suggestion?

The official Morrell ones are out of stock

There are a bunch od keyboard stands that may work but don't actually hold the instrument.

Any ideas?

Sitting or standing? If sitting a TV tray would work I would think

If it’s a cheapie get three floor flanges and screw em to the bottom (two on the back one at the front)then get some pipe for legs, shimming the flanges for correct angle

That’s the put holes in it method, otherwise anything the right height should work

Not helpful, of course, but mine came with three screw-in legs so it's an
almost built in tripod. It's pretty rickety though so I'd probably have to zip tie
it to something more stable if I used it live.

So, yeah... go for some cheap keyboard stand and mod it to fit.
Make some adapter -part for the top.

I’ve gigged with my lap steel on an “X” shaped keyboard stand, so I could play standing up. I’ve also gigged sitting down, with the lap steel literally on my lap. You could always bring a folding chair and sit down, or grab a bar stool. I’ve never played anywhere that did not have at least one extra seat.

I tried a small keyboard stand to play sitting, and it sort of worked, but I eventually decided the angles were wrong, and it was easier to play on my, um, lap.

Not much help here. My legs broke on my cheapie, repaired, but weren't stable. I actually recorded a song on my lap steel....on my lap.

I bought a server’s stand to play my mountain dulcimer (standing), and I’m sure it would work with one of my lap steels, although I haven’t tried that yet.

A machinist friend mad a flange on a lathe and cut the inside threads to match a mic stand. He ended up acquiring an old Atlas Soundolier big heavy mic stand to use with it.

Folding invalid walker works well if you can find one that adjusts to the height you want.

I've done the keyboard stand, and it worked fine
I've also done the tv tray and that worked fine. Very stable

Thanks folks, I sort of knew the X keyboard stand was what I was gonna do but I wanted to check here as well.

I suppose however, I could use a lap dog?
