Yeah open cases are too tempting for cats.

I sprinkle a little catnip on scratch pads at first to get their attention.

If my cat so much as looked at a guitar case with intent he got a kick up the arse.....

he never went near them ever again....

he did like resting on top of warm tube amps though.... I allowed him that concession...;)

you can train cats if you try... they are as tough as nails, don't be a ***** with your pussies...

I’ve had cats for years and never a issue with scratches at any of my amps. The only problem I have is cat hair any open cases or missing strings. As soon as I open a pack of strings or set my guitar on a table it’s go time. Just as bad as opening a can of tuna! 0336A6EE-9908-482B-A9C0-3CFEADBE7523.jpeg E2E5EF42-AA0F-4F80-957C-7ED282671F75.jpeg F40D18A9-5DB2-4309-BBF4-28C7346262C3.jpeg 663B3B73-4FCA-4408-890B-C815A745F6FB.jpeg DA162D73-9FCD-4E91-B526-AAFED7CBB5CE.jpeg

Just a little FYI, be prepared for perhaps a little too much honesty if you ask your cat it's opinion of your playing...

More often than not, it your cat has a designated Scratching Post of some kind, he or she will leave your gear alone.
    Spaying and Neutering helps too.

I don't know what it is about cats and boxes, but it is a universal thing. No cat can resist an open box. Doesn't matter the size of the cat or the size of the box, the cat is going in the box...

only trouble I had was when one sleeping/ playing in the case let the lid fall on him and it caught his paw. the spade from the lock cut into it an had to take him to the vet eventaully cus he ended up with an abscess that needed drained in the bottom of his foot..one threw up a furball on my cables once..furballs are nasty as they look. cats provide more joy than hate for cleaning up after them.. its all up to the human how much abuse he can stand from a cat :)

Always had cats around here. First thing they learn is... Be afraid, Be very afraid of being around anything that looks like mine including gear. They mostly live outside and dont see them much but the wife thinks she has cats

We've got four (who are all in door only cats) and they could care less about my gear. The key is to make sure the kitty has alternatives to scratch - its instinct for them to want to scratch. Get a scratching post and a cat tree house for them to climb and scratch on.

Rocky next to one of my lesters.

I caught muffincat testing my Twin as a scratching post, but I asked her not to and she's pretty good about boundaries I set. She really likes it up there, and as long as she doesn't mess with my grill cloth I'm fine with her on it. She leaps right up like a ninja.

In a heartbeat. Cats like being in containers, and must think a guitar case lined in soft material is the joint.

Nearly 40 yrs ago, Mrs Deeve, back then a fair maiden w/ a kitten, converted me from my dogs-only approach.
Annie had a good, long run, lasting a week or two short of 20 years. No gear damage.
Annie's follow-up felines, Betty & Minnie, were equally good tenants (none of the de-clawed - that's already been addressed in this thread) and nearly as long lived.

    I'd vote yes.
    Peace - Deeve

my cat never touches my gear, he hates guitars in general though. He leaves the room whenever I play one or even pick one up.

General MacArthur and General Lee are very comfortable with guitars. None of my cats have ever damaged any of my equipment in any way.
