I've been listening to Catch 22 on You-Tube Audio Books.
I am enjoying the reading immensely, smiling, chuckling and generally being amused by the performance.
A wonderful way to dismiss those Thursday Blues.
Captain John Yossarian is a wonderful tour guide.

Read the book and seen the movie a few times. I even have a family member named Yossarian. (Don't ask, it's a family thing.)

I love the book. I'm not much of an audiobook guy. I watched part of the 1970 film version again a week or so ago. It's interesting and well-made, but it doesn't quite work. A valiant effort. The recent mini-series adaptation produced by George Clooney was tone-deaf. Clooney doesn't understand comedy. Too often, he tries to act "funny." The mini-series took one of my favorite scenes from the book, Yossarian's argument in bed with Lt. Scheisskopf's wife, and made it completely unfunny. The lead Christopher Abbott is miscast and, strangely, they seem to have a reluctance to call him Yossarian. They're obviously avoiding it for some reason I can't fathom.

I got to meet Joseph Heller several times back when I was in bookselling, and to interview him. He was a lovely guy, totally unpretentious (unlike some of the writers I met).

    And, of course, a genius.

An exception to the rule of don't meet your heroes.

I love reading and Catch-22 is a book that I 'should' love but for some reason I just don't like it. I think there are only 3, maybe 4 books I've started reading and haven't finished and Catch-22 is one of them. I just don't know what it is about it.

    Great Book!

What's amazing is that Joseph Heller has said that the book was totally made up, and his experience in the military was a positive one, and that the criticisms were more about the Korean War and the 1950's and not World War 2.

And how cool is it that invented a term from scratch that has embedded itself in the English language.
