I wonder if a clear lucite body can be cast from a mold made from one of my guitars? I know it would be massively heavy, but I kind of fantasize about having a clear-bodied model 100 or perhaps a Marz 6, and have for years.

The model 100 is a set neck guitar, so maybe that one wouldn't be such a good candidate, but the Marz is a simpler form, smaller, the plastic plate would hide a lot of the internal wiring, etc..and it has a bolt-on neck...

I can remember being obsessed years ago by a clear lucite Dillion telecaster, it also had a lucite headstock. I haven't seen one of them in a long long time.

I think it may not be that big of a deal to cast a lucite body, considering how many cheapo Chinese lucite guitars are on eBay all the time.

    Any thoughts?

Making a mold in silicone is easy. Never tried casting acrylic though. Might be easy, might not. It's worth a try.

Or maybe a 3D scan, and CNC a solid block?

Casting thick acrylic is tricky. You need to use a vacuum to pull all the bubbles from the resin, and get rid of excess heat as it cures. You’ll need a two-part mold and a way to hold the mold together and support it for the pour. But it can be done.

I suspect the suggestion of having a 3D scan done and CNC-ing it from a solid block might be easier and cheaper.

Can a 3D printer spray the acrylic material, rather than the regular media used?

Would love to see a clean headless rendition of the Marz. Ideal shape.

I also think that CNC could be easier.

I dunno, I could never quite get my head around the idea of a headless guitar.
