Finally getting around to building the mould for the ribs.
Designing it in Aspire, & I’ll cut them out of 3/4” ply on the CNC.
Got a 339 file from Electric Herald Guitar site & importing them for the vector files.

Last spring, 2groggy was nice enough build me a set of 3-ply arched birdseye maple plates, and sent materials for ribs, etc.

My plan is a Casino Coupe. Wanted a slightly smaller body than the regular Casino.
I think I might add some 1/4” thick blocking under each pickup area, & a larger block under bridge area.
Doing some research, I have found online, an ES-330 kit build from China that had a post between the plates under the bridge block.
A fellow from the Netherlands built the kit.
I might look into trying that, instead of a complete lengthwise kerf block under the top plate for support.

Scott I"ve done two 335 style guitars one with the full kerfed center block and one with a smaller block that I carved to fit the inside of the top and back. you could easily make something like that on you mill.

The nice thing about this is that it gives very good neck support and you cn route pickup cavities whereever you want. This guitar got a ToM and stop bar.

On my full hollow body I just ran two spruce beams from the head block to the tail to support the pickups- no connection to the back. It does have a dovetail neck attachment and trapeze tailpiece

Freeman, thanks for the info.

I’m planning on a Trapeze tailpiece.

Hopefully I’ll get the CNC running again.
Had a power outage, a couple weeks ago.
Now it crashes on startup of Windows.

CNC back up and running.

Got 2 moulds cut out of 3/4” plywood, so I will stack together and bend the ribs around.

Marked pilot holes and will drill larger 1” holes to receive clamps.

Make neck & end blocks for ribs to get glued to.

Once the ribs are set, I will remove the bottom mould plate, glue kerfing, then back plate. Then the top mold will get removed. Everything should hold shape. Then glue kerfing, and top plate after that to complete body.

Basically how I built my violin.

If I only had some.:lol:

Maple, mahogany, walnut, & cherrywood, is all I have.

Scott
I have only used mahogany and maple for necks, mostly mahogany which is what I used on both 335's and the hollow body. In retrospect, I kind of wished that I had used maple - it would have matched the flamed maple top and back, I finished both 335's in transparent red and it was tricky trying to stain the neck to match.

Maybe I’ll build the neck out of birdseye maple.
Maybe laminated, with a couple of walnut stripes. ;)
Birdseye/thin walnut/birdseye/thin walnut/Birdseye.
Scarf joint headstock.

I think I’m leaving the body natural.

I know what you are capable of doing, any of those would be good. I think a lot of it depends on how you plan to finish it. The guy I was building for wanted "bubble gum red" A scarf joined head is a good idea since you have to put the adjuster there

You MIGHT someday call Jefferies Woodworks and ask for a quote. Although located in Tennessee they will ship anywhere in Canada and the US. Cynthia answers the phone and is the co-owner and very schooled on wood. They literally buy worldwide 😁
