You can buy a shim for the bridge pickup from Lindy Fralin, among others. They come in three sizes, and that will give you parity between the neck and bridge pickup.

You can see the one my Gibson came with in that picture above, the one with no strings on it.

Although Fralins make them as well, I like Lollars as you can get a shim pack that has 2 of each thickness and one very thick one made of plastic. Its a bit more expensive than Fralins, but Lollars give you 8 pieces versus 3, which gives you more fine tuning.

The pickups on my 2018 ES-330 are MHS (memphis historic spec) and are underwound and scatter wound. Which is very nice for cleans and Its very chimey rather than hot as hell P90’s ive experienced from chinese Casinos and Korean Sorrento. I experimented and found that the neck Pickup is best when I shimmed it up with the thinnest one, then shimmed the bridge up with the medium thickness + another thinnest one. There’s no more volume loss when I switch to bridge, and it now has that growl and bite of a bridge P90.

i know you can just make these DIY, but then again, I have to look into materials and etc etc.

I'm from Melbourne, it took 2 weeks to get to me.. well because I asked for a standard shipping rather than the mandatory priority shipping for 45usd for international orders..

How does your ES330 compare with your natural Matsumoku ?

I'd love a ES330 to compare ..seriously considering selling my Jazzmaster to buy a 2018 ES330.

Ever since I got the 330. There’s actually no comparison. The Matsumoku is good, good enough.

The better one of the two is the 90’s Casino MIJ, although the nut is too narrow and neck is too skinny.

I think the best I can compare my 2018 ES-330 is with a 97-98 Peerless Korea made ES guitars (Sorrento, Casino, ES-295)

The nut width is the same 43mm, neck profile is similar, but the Gibson is rounder.

My 2018 ES-330 is top notch. Theres two versions 50’s inspired sunset burst and 60’s inspired limited run Dark cherry (which i have) and the olive drab green. Those three guitars are superb.

The sunburst one i think is modelled after the 50’s spec, which has a similar neck but a bit rounder/fuller, probably based loosely on 59 spec neck. The dark cherry/olive drab seem to be modelled loosely on a 64-67-ish model which has nickel/chrome covers, black reflector knobs, etc. and the neck is still rounded C and has a nice taper and girth (think american pro neck but maybe a little slimmer/thicker depending how Varied these 2018 Gibson necks are), but I think slimmer than the sunburst one.


I sold everything to get my 2018 ES-330. And I dont regret it one bit. Its been my number 1 for almost 2 years now. And have built my rig around it.

I just sold the 295 as it sounds too similar with my Gibson and now got a 57 strat to go with it. But still, the Gibson is my main squeeze and have taken some dents (really cried about this lol) and battle scars already.

I was shopping around for some shims for my casino and ended up ordering some Lollar P90s to go with them. Maybe I'll do a before and after comparison though there are already plenty of examples on yt.
