This was a bad*ss song when it came out.

We wanted to do it in 1979 ( first band/College) but we weren't good enough.
    Still not, maybe!

The album's title — Double Nickels on The Dime — is about driving at 55mph in their van on the 110 to home in San Pedro. In the We Jam Econo documentary, Mike Watt explains that they found Sammy Hagar's music kind of safe and boring, and that driving the speed limit in their van was their own way of rebelling against conventional rock music.

“She Loves My Automobile”, “Precious and Grace”, “Goin’ Down To Mexico”, “Mexican Blackbird”, “Gotsta Get Paid (25 Lighters)”, “Arrested for Driving While Blind” and many others by ZZ Top

Pearly Gates (the guitar) was named after an old car Gibbons loaned to a girl, who drove it to California to get an acting role…she sold it when she got there and sent the money to the Reverend, who then used it to buy that special ‘59 Les Paul…so one of the most famous guitars in Rock & Roll was named after a car.

Billy Gibbons said they seemed to naturally write songs about driving because of all the highways, byways and roads in Texas…you spend a lot of time in a car if you go anywhere (I’ve experienced that myself).

Here's a great Rockabilly song from a Fort Worth legend.

An amazing young lady who I used to spend time with used to play this track in my car, it wasn't until 'after' that I realised what I'd lost:

Unless I missed it, I’m surprised that no one has mentioned what might be the best driving song ever.

Rockin Little Roadster. I had it on a Jan & Dean record. It's a love song to a car.
