"Car Issues" is a newer show on Motor Trend TV.

The premise of the show is this guy goes around and buys used cars. He drives away in the car and finds somewhere to stop and tell you about those kinds of cars. Then he drives the car like he stole it to see how it runs and then he takes the car to a garage with a single mechanic he calls "Wizard".

This show annoys the crap out of me. Here's why:

First of all, he buys decent cars and crap cars. He pays whatever is the asking price. "Only $12,000? Sounds good to me." No haggling.

Then, he gets into a car that he knows nothing about and drives it at high speeds around town. He knows NOTHING about the car. He doesn't check it out or anything beforehand (it's a show and most likely, he gets it looked over before he just drives around in traffic like a 16 year old boy)

Then, usually, something happens like the car overheats or he breaks a cv axle or the four wheel drive stops working or it stalls in freeway traffic.

THEN he takes it to "Wizard" who finds it needs a new crate motor and it's gonna cost $22 parts and labor. Okay, that's an exaggeration but I want mechanic like Wizard who is the most honest mechanic and seems to have the cheapest rates in the country on parts and labor.

The host is SO annoying to me.

I'm gonna watch a few more episodes and then maybe a couple more and then I'm DONE!

"Car Issues" isn't about or for me. Buy or lease, it's always new. The leased cars are driven as family cars and see regular use. Service or repairs, the car is the dealer's problem. Drop it off, pick up a loaner, and pick mine up when it's done. I leased a BMW 330i in March. We purchase toys. We have a BMW Z4 scheduled for delivery on August 17. Toys get driven 6K or less. We trade them when we get bored with them. Used cars are a roll of he dice and I'm not a gambling man.

    Car shows sell.
Apparently they don't have an IQ cutoff.
    I'm guilty too.

Hey @Torren61, this series might be a fun antidote to help you simmer down when “Car Issues” gets you down, maybe...?

I think the guys behind Car Issues had a healthy YouTube presence before the tv show. I think they morphed what was initially genuine in YouTube to reality tv.

"Reality TV" is just regular crap programming, with one huge exception... Instead of paying a known actor, or even people who have studied the craft... They just have regular idiots... attempting to read their ridiculous scripts.... as if it's their own words.

Right about the time I think people have figured this out, and are offended by it... I see 3 more trailers for the newest "Reality" show.

That's just what a "reality show" should be. Seemingly impossible rescues of broken Jeeps & ORVs in the middle of nowhere, idiots getting their Prius's stuck in washes 50 miles from the road, tour buses up to the axles in sand, plus a smart girl, dogs running loose in the Utah desert and some of the most glorious country in the USA which is what drew these adventurers to their predicaments in the first place. And all the characters are real people, including Matt, something in short supply on 'reality' shows. Let's all hope & pray the TV networks never discover these videos or it'll go the sad way of Orange County Choppers.

Until they fell out, we had Wheeler Dealers with spanner man Ed China and the very irritating Mike Brewer (on the left)
Every week Mike would pick up a car for a song- hand it to Ed to pump the tyres and maybe fit a new wiper blade, before flipping it for a healthy 'profit'. In this parallel universe, none of the 60's/70's Brit classics ever needed much welding..

Hey BerkshireDuncan, where are you in Oxford? I did my first ever band gig in the Jericho Tavern, way back in 1981! And I still have my Strat that I used.

More "spray and pray" mentality. Spray s**t on TV and hope something sticks. Of course, that's not much different than Martin and some of the other name brand guitar companies. An Earth guitar???

I've built plenty of cars and bikes, and find most of those shows pretty unrealistic, dumb or both:rolleyes:

Scripted and edited for your pleasure.

This crap is a major reason I barely watch tv and dont get cable etc.
(That and the fact my provider dropped that channel with the Marty Stuart show... )
    Shaking fist at cloud.

Its especially insulting when the premise pretends here isnt a camera crew present, nor a production team planning the scene.
Its a step below dumb tv.

One of my favorite shows. I’ve seen every episode. I liked Edd better than Ant.
