I’m just looking inside my ‘57 Custom Champ, changing tubes and trying unsuccessfully to track down a very annoying rattle, and I noticed what appears to be leakage from, what I assume to be, the capacitors - is that what this is? If so, is there likely to be any other/knock on damage or need for repair? And other thoughts or advice, other than don’t stick my fingers in there, would be welcome 🙂

the white stuff you see is silicone sealant to prevent those caps from wiggling lose and or vibrating , Take a look at the positive end of the caps if you see bumps on that end the cap is failing , these caps in your picture are Sprague Atoms caps ( brand name ) which are good quality , I always replace them with F&T caps of the same value as they are a little higher in quality and longevity . if your amp is a 57' the caps should be replaced if you notice your noise floor is getting louder.

Oh Yeah, be very Careful in the amp when the cap says 450 volts , it means 450 volts , with out mercy, leave servicing to a proper tech , or as you may regret it if your heart stops!

Thank you - that’s very reassuring - no bumps on the caps, and the noise floor is really low. I bought the amp secondhand and, having checked the serial number, was surprised it only dates from 2021 so I guess you wouldn’t expect to see too many things fail just yet.
The rattle is perplexing as everything I can see seems really tight - I guess that’s for another post. Thanks again for your help 🙂
