I remember years ago when I quit, the milestones got easier. 24 hours, 48, a week. After 2 weeks it got easier. I could crush the cravings pretty easily by then and the were getting fewer and weaker.

Just don't do what I did after 3 years, get curious how one would taste. Within a week, I was back at a pack a day.

Nicotine is a hell of a drug.

I'm from the US and when I was in Europe last test I was STUNNED at how many people were still smoking. I moved to the vape a couple years ago but am hoping to drop that soon as well.

Congrats to all the new non smokers, , will be two years this new years, and as much as I crave the odd smoke here and there, I know what will happen.

Don't take things lightly when quitting nicotine. Here are some info pulled off the net
    Nicotine
More than 32 million Americans aged 12 and older smoked cigarettes on a daily basis in 2014, according to NSDUH. Smokers may continue to smoke because of an addiction to nicotine, one of the primary active chemicals in tobacco smoke that is considered to be highly addictive, Psychology Today reports.
Abstract Smoke On A Black Background.

Nicotine acts on the reward circuitry in the brain after being absorbed through the mucosal lining of the mouth and nose, through the lungs, or through the skin. Its pleasant sensations and elevation in both mood and cognition may encourage smokers to keep smoking. Nicotine takes effect within 10 seconds of being smoked and wears off in a matter of hours, meaning that individuals may wish to have another cigarette not too long after the last one, NIDA reports.

A dependency on nicotine can build up quickly when someone smokes regularly, and nicotine may be one of the toughest drugs to stop using without help. Withdrawal symptoms include irritability, increased appetite, anxiety, depression, trouble concentrating and focusing on things, and significant cravings. The legality and prevalence of nicotine may lead to its rampant abuse and high relapse rates.
"From a scientific standpoint, nicotine is just as hard, or harder, to quit than heroin … but people don't recognize that," said Dr. Neil Benowitz, a nicotine researcher at the University of California, San Francisco.
Nicotine also acts as a stimulant, said Benowitz. "It helps people concentrate, and if they don't have a cigarette, they have trouble focusing."
a nicotine researcher at the State University of New York at Buffalo, said as helpful as medication can be, people who really want to quit smoking also have to be willing to modify their lifestyle.
"People need to focus on behavioral change … they need the right skills and knowledge and social support. They need a plan," said Giovino, a professor and chair of his school's Department of Community Health and Health Behavior
In terms of dependence alone, nicotine is often considered to be the most addictive of the well-known and commonly studied drugs, outpacing heroin and cocaine. This often comes as a surprise to people due to the fact that it doesn’t cause the same problems associated with alcohol, cocaine, or heroin.

Track how much time smoking cost you daily.Include time to buy em too.Bet you didn't know just how much time you spent. Time that needs to be filled when quiting. When I got ready to quit, I smoked more. Forced myself to smoke more that usual, till I got sick of smoking so many.took me 3 days mentally to get where I had "quit". Stopped cold turkey. But that's me. I hope you find what works for you.1 big factor is all the money I now had to spend! Good luck.Others quit. You are not alone. ps: I stay away from smokers now. Can't stand the smell.

I have been 'mostly' cigarette-free for most of the past 30 years or so.
I quit thousands of times and have been wearing a patch for many years. Everytime I go off the patch or go on the 'smallest' patch, I seem to fail within days.
My doctor said it was OK, and that the patch is way better for me than smoking.

Once a week I go to a jam-session with the same bunch of old guys and most of them smoke.
My drummer and my bass guy both smoke so heavily that they stink.
Great guys, close friends, but I drive them home after the jam and they stink up my car.
(I won't let them smoke in my car)
I have to strip down and wash all of my clothes when I get home.

My bass player likes to say that he is going to stop smoking.
He figures that he'll probably stop smoking, two or three days after he is dead.

    Don't smoke. RM

I've watched aunts and other relatives die of emphysema. Not a good way to go.

It has kept me from ever trying it again.
