They say at EMG my 9V battery will fit nicely in the cavity for controls. It don't. I have a deluxe body that I want EMGs in. How would you go about this prob, dont know what to do here because if I rout any deeper so it fits under controls i will come out of the back of the body.

Back when I had EMGs in my tele, my tech routed out a 9v sized door in the back of its body, by the lower horn. He made a plastic cover that is held in place by two screws. I don't know how he ran the wires to the pickups , but that saved me from pulling the control plate every time I wanted to check or change the battery.

I'm with Ron on this one, putting a battery in a Tele just seems wrong to me. That goes for strats as well. I feel better now.............

There are lots of guys on here that love their EMGs and I'm sure they'll chime in with the advice you're looking for.

I found this link via Google and it looks as though a small battery cavity seems the way to go.

Hope this is of some help. And if you want active pick ups in your Tele, good for you!

Don't know about a Deluxe ?....but they fit quite nicely in a Standard control rout, if like most things...you plan a careful and clean install...don't try and just stuff things in Willy-nilly (He said Willy-Nilly )

I prefer to go the back-door route. (yes I'm paid to put up straight lines like that) It makes accessing the battery when you suddenly need to change it very simple.

I have an older EMG PA-2 preamp in my strat and the battery goes between the strings in the back so I'm with the back route crowd....easy to change that's the deal maker there!!

Cheers

Dear List:
We have retrofitted an EMG FT active pickup set in a Telecaster Squier. Great sound from very basic (Roland KB, Fender 60W) amplification.
TELE SQUIER: The OEM pus are a long depth ceramic magnet type.
POSTING: Some of the info below we discovered when conducting a test with EMG ACT FT pickups in a Telecaster Squier.
1. The bridge pickup cavity will just accept the battery laying flat with the +/- posts facing the controls.
2. The EMG bridge pickup is small enough and the screws are not too long as with the OEM screws.
3. The EMG 9V plug in wire harness faces the neck. Use poster tack, thin velcro, or 3M 2-sided tape to hold it, plus the pickup doesn't allow much movement.
4. The battery is close proximity. Possibly the Squier gives more room in the cavity, than the US or Deluxe models.
5. (Also 9V batteries vary slightly in dimension LXWXH by brand. Find the smallest size battery that you can.)
6. This choice above also helps you when fitting active pickup 9V batteries in trem cavities of the Strat.
7. Plus in the Strat trem cavity one can remove every other spring to make room for the battery.
8. If not, one can place the battery in the lower part of the Strat cavity laying flat if one chooses not to use the trem.
Good Luck and please post your results and any new info on the retrofit.

My brother in law has a Tele with EMG's and the installer routed the control cavity deep.......

It was so well done I almost couldn't see it when I took off the control plate

Then when I lifted the up there, snuggled in the bottom was the 9v battery
