I bought this thin line body from Warmoth in 2005 & put a Mary Kaye nitro finish on it & it turned out beautiful. I screwed it up last year trying to use a hair dryer & compressed air in a can to get that vintage crazing in the clear coat so I've stripped off the original finish to redo it. I used Stewmac white pigment mixed with clear back then but since my finishing equipment was stolen a few years ago I'm going to just use rattle cans from ReRanch. I can't decide on doing it in MK again or a butterscotch blonde. I'd like some opinions if anyone cares to offer one. Sorry for the bad pic. Thanks 100_0019.JPG

Wow! That is some spectacular grain. I think I would put a warm amber on it to pop the grain and then do a classic tobacco brown sunburst shade just around the outer edge. I've seen some real nice finished bodies in that style on Warmoth. What a bummer about your finishing equipment. Do you have a buddy with a rig so you could shoot it?

I'd be tempted to just shoot it with clear, that grain is beautiful!

I agree with telepraise, I would go with an amber tint because MK and BSB can be a little too opaque and hide the grain.

That wood deserves to be highlighted...it's outstanding! I'll also agree with the "just clear coat" with perhaps a little amber for warmth.

You & Telepraise do have a point there but for some reason I've never been a big fan of bursts. I guess it's because they're so common. Another idea I had, if I had the equipment, was to mix a tad of blue pigment with white to get a semi translucent powder blue. I don't recall ever seeing something like that.

I know that Fender makes a transparent Surf Green and a transparent Sonic Blue for the custom shop. But a transparent blue would look nice.

Not a big fan of Amber myself. Like it a little more brown.. besides.. one of the rules written in stone.. Never date or marry a girl named Amber..
The only one I ever knew was MAJOR trouble..
She married one of the nicest guys I ever knew and did nothing but cause him big problems.

I had a pcaster tele in Amber for a few years, I just 3 days ago stripped it and went a good bit browner, I just used Minwax Early American #230.. came out pretty much like I wanted..
I never really liked the Amber, too light, to yellowish..

I think my next one will be a blue translucent stain..kinda worn looking. Someone had some pics up of a real nice one just a week ago..
here's a shot of that blue one.

    I kinda like it..

I find some ambers nicer than others, I prefer the more lighter tinted ones. But anything that enhances the grain I love.

Enhance the grain and clear it ... Beautiful wood like that needs to be seen !!! A light tint of color would be ok ...

I'd just cover that nice grain with sanding sealer to protect the grain, then think about it later.
    That way everything is reversable.

Mary Kay white is one of my favorite traditional finishes. BSB is on the opposite end of that scale for me.

I love the idea of using pale blue instead of white. Maybe stain the body dark blue then sand it back so the blue is only in the grain to make it stand out some.

I’m picturing blue sanded back then trans white on top.

Might look like blue cheese though, so maybe trans blue is better!

Walnut brown with a thin satin tru oil finish or a satin 2t tobacco burst.
