You probably missed this in my earlier post - "TV and home electronics are another story (proof positive that Asian countries can make good stuff)."

Actually, Africa is becoming China's China, so it will change somewhat.

I didn't anticipate expressing a preference to buy US or protect US/Western intellectual property to be so unpopular.

You're a hypocrite if you use chinese microwaves. Haven't you heard of that guy in Portland that makes $4000 hardwired microwaves in his garage?

Buy or don't buy, it's your money, spend it as you please. But this "intellectual property theft" is a weak rationalization to spend more for the same thing. A circuit is a circuit, it isn't copyrighted, and everyone in the business is copying each other all the time. The only real difference is QC... maybe.

And why single out Joyo? There are a slew of new chinese pedal companies cranking out the same circuits under different brand names.

Good point. Why single out Joyo. Just because there the ones that are known to me and the ones that sound good enough to have me consider them.

As far as the other part, a circuit is a circuit....

I'm sure you would agree that US pedal makers like Fulltone, Xotic, Wampler, etc may be inspired by each other's designs although they don't try to duplicate their competitors designs entirely.

Too bad for you ... I like Joyo pedals and am not patriotic.

Of course ... I'm not American.

Easy there Captain America. I didn't know that you were also philosophically opposed to boutique hand-built microwaves.

Lol. I just realized I'm wearing red, white, and blue (coincidentally)

A new Joyo American Dream is about $30.00
    A Suhr Riot is $200.00

So US made equivalent is 6.5 times the price of shines knock off. Alternatively, you can sometimes find a used Riot for $100 - $150 bringing that ratio down further.

A decent microwave can be found for under $100.00
So your US made microwave is 40 times the price of it's counterpart.

    Not exactly apples to apples.

Your point is not totally viable because of math (ratios) so, then it becomes just that I'm a hypocrite.

You're one of "them". It's people like you that are responsible for the degradation of American society by purchasing your beloved Joyo pedals. You should be ashamed of yourself.

American Dream is not a Suhr Riot ripoff. It's a Tech 21 Character pedal ripoff.

    Geez.

But almost every one of those companies borrows heavily from earlier designs, some of them asian in origin. Adding a knob or two, or tweaking some resistor values doesn't make me want to spend quadruple the price for them.

Here in Oz Chinese brands and big name brands made in China sit side by side on the stores shelves. Curiously a lot of differently branded pedals all look as though they have come out of the same factory but with different labels. I don’t mean just the Chinese brands. [emoji3]

It's hard to argue intellectual property in the pedal world, but then again, there are some companies that have never contributed one single idea or tweak of their own. Joyo seems to be one of those. Their image in my mind is such that I just can't own one. I have to like my gear, and I just can't like those.

    You're both wrong. Geez. :p
It's "US dream" (Riot) and "American sound" (Blonde)
