A lot of people think the C.Rex is the solution to all problems. It isn't .... I use it in 3 of my amps because it suits what I play and like the way it sounds. In order to make a rational decision you need to consider the the amp, the axe you use and what you use on your pedal board. Face it .... there are situations where another speaker is what you need. The idea is to pick the right tool for the job. This takes experience and some cash to get it right.

I have the PRRI with the C-Rex. I like it but as you state it would get flabby or boomy with distortion. That was with a Maestro Fuzz unit. I bought the Eminence GA-SC64 like you and put it in. Distortion does sound better but I missed the jazz tones and SRV tones from the C-Rex. I bought a 1x12 cab for the GA-SC64 speaker so now I can play either. I recorded with both to compare and as a you said the mids were slightly more forward. Now I don't notice boomy distortion with the C-Rex but I am also using a Pantheon and Velvet Fuzz both by Wampler.

I think they are both nice but I'm keeping the C-Rex in the amp for when I take it to someone's house.

I think there’s a good possibility that I just haven’t found the right cabinet for the C-Rex to tighten it up. Regardless, it doesn’t have enough clarity in the high end for me. Could be because I’m 52 years old and have some high end hearing loss.

I played a gig last year with the C-Rex in an open back cabinet and it was muddy as hell. That was the last time I took it out. People in the audience, whom I trust, confirmed that my sound was not sitting well in the mix.

I played a small bar gig last night with my Princeton Reverb loaded with the GA-SC64 12” and it was amazing. I’m done with the C-Rex.

Yeah, I haven't played the amp with a band. The GA-SC64 has mids to cut and it is a little louder than the C-Rex. I'm glad I have both. I have played them together and it sounds nice. It is 4 ohms when you do that but Fender Guru's site that Fenders can do that. I played it at low volume just in case.

My Fender Pro Jr IV and Fender ported HM closed back 1x12 cab with a Cannabis Rex, with the volume ~4-5 can play in a jam band with two guitars, bass rig and acoustic drums.

The Fender Pro Jr IV has a Jenson 10" PQR speaker is rated at 94 db and the Cannabis Rex is 102.2 db, an 8 db higher difference. To add 3 db you have to double the power of the amp. The Fender Pro Jr IV is rated at 15W and with the12" Cannabis Rex is equivalent to 60+W, more than enough to play in a band.
