Hey folks,

I want to know what's your final verdict on the C rex speaker? For some amps it might not work yes it’s true but I don't think it's that dark at all. It's actually well balanced and versatile. I'm currently playing one through deluxe reverb and tele. So let's hear it!!

I have one in my Princeton also. I don't dislike it. I have been meaning to change it just to see.

I have the 12" in two different things.
Blues Jr. and a single 12" cab.
I think they sound great.

I think it depends on the amp, the sound you're looking for and a bunch of other variables. In my PRRI it sounded great for Blues but for Country Chicken Picking I thought it was a bit to dark and broke up earlier than I like. So I pulled it and put it in my SCX2 and on the Twin setting it worked very well. To replace it I put in an Eminence Legend 1258. To my ears it gave me the clarity and headroom I was looking for.

I bought a CRex years ago after some players on a jazz guitar forum claimed it was a great speaker for clean jazz tones. People were really into "hemp" cones at the time, I guess.

Tastes vary; I was underwhelmed by the CRex as a clean warm jazz speaker. It didn't come close to the EVM-15B or JBL D-130F or the Eminence Delta Pro-12a or the EVM-12L or the old 15" Jensens loaded in the old Ampeg Gemini IIs, IMO.

But, when externally "paired" with other "non-hemp" speakers loaded in several amps... like a SFPR (loaded with a really good sounding Eminence 1058) or a SF Vibrolux loaded over time with a variety of speakers (including another hemp speaker - the Eminence Lil Buddy - & a WGS Veteran 10) it sounded like a match made in heaven for rock and country styles; very Marty Stuart-ish. It even sounded decent for clean jazz at lower volumes.

I wish I could explain why it sounds so much better to my ears when paired with other speakers but I can't. It just sounds great to me when paired with other non-hemp speakers.

That's my take on the CRex. YMMV.

Fresh discussion is always welcome.
Yes, add it to existing threads. There are literally 74 existing threads and that’s just in amp central station searching the title of the thread. That’s why TDPRI has a feature when you go to post a new thread that shows you existing threads.

Got a 12" in the FSR Princeton, switched out to a newer Jensen P12R for a bit, put the C-Rex back in, it's opened up by now and all the chime is there, very smooth sounding speaker, perhaps a weee bit 'darker' with certain pups

I've got mixed reviews. I have a giant 1968 bandmaster cabinet and in that they were so loud and bassy that the house vibrated- I should have figured this as that cabinet has lots of bass as is. . Now I've got one in a twin reverb with a stock speaker and that pair sounds good. I really like the weber f150 in a deluxe reverb

My favorite speaker. I may change amps over the years, but my well-broken-in CREX stays with me!

IMO, it sounds like a VERY well-broken in (pummeled) old American speaker (like a Jensen... but a 50-year old Jensen!)

At perhaps the other end of the spectrum, I put a CRex in a Champion 40. It rescued the C40 from being given away.

The flip side to this argument is that folks get annoyed (I'm one of them) when someone adds a post to a thread that's multiple years (sometimes more than a decade) old. It's a balancing act. In this case I don't really see the harm in starting a new thread.
