I'm about to finish painting a guitar body using Montana Gold spray paint, listed on the label as a nitrocellulose acrylic. Once the painting is done and it has a day or two to cure, I'll be doing a matte or flat topcoat. Could I use a lacquer spray sealer (e.g. Krylon Chalky Matte Clear) or an oil-based sealer (e.g. Minwax satin polyurethane) over the paint without the paint reactivating and crackling?

I would contact the manufacturer of the "nitrocellulose acrylic" as I am unfamiliar with that term. See what they recommend. Perhaps they have their own clear coat that is more likely to be compatible with the gold. Otherwise test on scrap for compatibility first.

they sure do call it nitro-acrylic.

It says once it's completely dry you can spray about anything over it.

it also says to test on scrap first to avoid disappointment.
