Has anyone use Camphor Laural for a body? I have access to a few flitches with fantastic colour and grain but it would be too good to be true if it any good for guitars.

I did a quick search and saw that Ibanez makes a guitar from camphor laurel. http://www.sweetwater.com/guitargallery/electric/all/sA09003/ Beautiful stuff, I think if it's camphor burl it needs to be stabilized, but I have never worked with it before. The stuff I am reading on google indicates the wood may be somewhat oily like cocobola, but it is being used for guitars! I say go for it!

What a fascinating and beautiful "flow" in that grain. Does it have an equally characterful tone?

Camphor Laurel is much loved by wood turners ,box makers etc. The smell of the wood when being worked is delightful.

Yes it is a weed and is declared as noxious in many local areas.

I heard it's good for chopping boards because it has natural antiseptic properties, but that might be an old wife's tale. You could always rub some on your tummy if you have a cold.

Hi. New member in Australia. Gold Coast. Been doing parts casters for a while but did my first Camphor two piece body yesterday. Beautiful grain. I'll take a picture or two and post.
Also doing Lacewood with figured Mango tops!
