Well I sure ain't Ole Fuzzy but I'll just point out right off the bat that the guitar up for sale clearly does not have the same leather cover as the one pictured with Waylon.

From all the pics of Waylons guitars I've ever seen, I've never seen one with a Humbacher. And I agree, the flower pattern doesn't match either. But I guess that doesn't mean he didn't actually own this one though.

Either way, we're taking $500+ for a Mexi loaded body with some cow hide thrown on top of it :)

Come on Guys....your a tough crowd....there were quite a few Leather-covered Waylon Guitars...seller doesn't Imply it was "The One"...just one of many that he gave to an Impersonator Act...could be Legit...or a total Scam...but I wouldn't discount it too quick, w/o further research.....?

I'm pretty sure Waylons had a "W" on the back.

    Is this thing a toploader?

If not, how the heck do you change the strings?

That ain't Waylons. Waylon had a `60's tele for years and then replica's made by Fender with Texas Specials in them (Texas Specials were invented to replecate Waylons guitar) I've never seen Waylon play a guitar with a humbucker and a blade.
The leather can be brought from a few places for up to $100 you can get covers for Stats and Accustics as well.

IMHO this isn't one of Waylons. I could be Shooter Jennins (Waylons Son, who uses a leather coverd humbuckerd tele) but I doubt it.

That's cool, I had no idea about that... thanks for sharing that tidbit of info. I'd always heard that only the Merle Haggard and the MIM James Burton teles came stock with those TS pickups...

    Links? :)

I'm no expert on Waylon, or anything else for that matter, but I do know he had several different leather-covered teles that he used and gave to different people, Hard Rock or different charities. People would give him leather-covered teles that they made for him.

Here are some pics of his #1 and another guitar, you can see the difference in the pattern on the leather work.

Who knows if the guitar on Ebay is one of his or not but I know It would have to be the #1 or the Broadcaster Reggie has before I would even think about dropping 50K on it.

The Tele shown in the first [McGuire] photo is not the #1....
It is the Custom Shop version done by Munger for Waylon in 1990. Modeled directly from the No. 1, it is the closest of the MANY he used over the years -- but still not identical. This is now owned by a man with a bench-job in Washington state.

The Tele in the second pic is a '67. This is the only one of Waylon's many that did not resemble at all the No. 1....uglier than hell and extremely heavy, Munger called it "a dog". I agree.

Of all Waylon's guitars I've seen, handled and studied I ain't never seen [or heard tell of] nothing like what's now being offered on eBad.

That does not, however, make it illegit....but the seller'd need to produce a ton of supporting documentation before I'd ever consider paying even $5,000 for it.

Consider this: Waylon's No. 2 guitar [one that appeared on stage with him throughout the 80's and 90's] was sold initially for 20 grand, came back on the market a few times over the next couple years, eventually offered for only 13 grand and did NOT sell. Far as I know, he still has it.

Hey Billy C - none of Waylon's many Teles had the Flyin W.....

There have been, however, a number of knock-offs created that have this added touch. Most of the ones I've seen [primarily on eBay] have been done by a lady named Sharon.
