One of my favorite flute solos. I just got my 50 year old flute overhauled for the first time and what a difference! It was worth every penny. Those low notes pop out great. I am going to start playing it in the band a lot more. We just worked up Land Down Under. Joy!

I'd love to hear a clip if you can post it. Vintage instruments, when taken care of, sound great!

Sorry, but the rock & roll flute solo ("Down Under" notwithstanding) died with the '70s. Just a fact.

California Dreamin' is a great song. I play it on guitar and uke. Once at a friend's party I did it, vocalizing the flute solo.

California Dreamin is a great song, great harmonies, great memories, but I think more about Michelle Phillips than the flute, with all due respect...but the flute was very good.

I once bought my ex an old (spelling it phonetically because I have no idea how) Gameinhart open hole, which she said was like a Cadillac when she was in high school band.

I sent it off for a complete overhaul and surprised her with it.

She played it for about 3 minutes then it went in the closet.

Sorry for expounding on something that wasn't asked but that's what comes to mind with flutes for me...

Had a flutist in the band in the 70's, heavy rock including Tull, he spent most of the time twisting the tubes in and out to keep it in tune!

Love the flute on Stairway. Or is it a mellotron?

We play that but have no flautist. I cover that solo on guitar. Pretty good but not the same!

Your post will not deter me in the slightest from playing flute on Nights in White Satin, Heard it in a Love Song, Land Down Under, Fire on the Mountain, Living in the Past, etc. Just a fact.

California Dreamin' is on our set list; I play the flute solo with a Roland guitar synth rig, same patch I use for the flute solo on Nights in White Satin. Works for me.

Jethro Tull rock-'n'-roll flute blew my mind. Still does.

I'm not adding anything to the discussion here - but that was recorded very nicely. Sounds best on a very good stereo rig with great separation in a nice room.
