At least the cable didn't get routed through it...

It's worthless now. I wouldn't pay $20 for it. Would $175 take it off your hands...?

I feel bad for the cable guy. This was not intentional, and he may lose his job over it.

Bummer for the guitar owner as well, but he may come out ahead when all is settled.

Maybe you can put the cable modem inside now? There are some mini wifi routers that you could screw to the headstock also.

I'd actually blame myself for this way more than the cable guy if it happened to me.

Sorry $4000 guitar and a guy I don't know drilling holes.. no way I'm letting the cable guy drill any holes without:
    - Me being there to watch/supervise
    - I double check both sides of walls, etc..
    - I'm going to clean the area and obviously move things like $4k guitars out of the way to prevent an accident and/or help the job go faster so I spend less money

Contractors make mistakes and cable guys are at the bottom of the hierarchy of contractors/construction guys AFAICT, so no way they are drilling any holes without being watched.

I had a 17 year old kid show up as a Comcast contractor a few years ago. He tried to hang a regular extending ladder against the telephone line and climb up to the line. Almost killed himself when the top of the ladder started sliding sideways. Luckily he was athletic and jumped off safely. Amazing. Gave up on the job, can't remember how it went down but they eventually sent someone way more experienced with a bucket truck to finish the job.

Does the guitar now get all the premium channels?

I feel bad for the cable guy as well as the owner because accidents do happen but, this will have to be made right.

At least the dude doesn’t have to stress over getting that first scratch any more.

I am still baffled how a cable guy was anywhere near the guitar case with a drill? Maybe I am overthinking it.

    Yeah missing info here.
Where in hell was the guitar case sitting?
In a closet right where the cable had to run into the building?
Drill bits for this job are only 12" long, and the guitar owner must have been pretty indifferent to the welfare of his investment.
I agree that the clean hole is impressive, nice sharp drill bit that hadn't hit any nails yet.
I don't even leave guitars against an outside wall, never mind when an installation is being done running wiring from outside to inside.
Not that I've never been an idiot...

Cleat it from the inside so it doesn’t split.

if it were mine , I probably wouldn’t even patch The outside.

it’s a modern Martin flattop. A tool. Not a collectible and it never will be.

See, that’s why all my guitars are hanging on the wall - to keep them safe from Jim Carrey and his drill bit !

Send the Guitar to one of the Erlewine brothers and make a video of the process.

If a cable installer (who of course works for an actual cable company) drilled a hole in your home that went into one wall and out into the next room (damaging valuables) you’d blame yourself?!?

    We’ve had cable installations.

We’ve had major security system installations.

The technicians at our homes scanned the walls (you can buy a scanner for $12) to make sure that they were not drilling into HVAC or wires or pipes. That’s basic stuff.

I’m sure that the cable company is insured. This technician needs some more training. Good grief. It’s too bad. I’m a Martin lover.
