I’m building a speaker cab, and have enough space on the baffle to do either a 2x10 or a large box 1x12. Which would you do and why?

    I own (2) 1X12s , a 2x12, a 2x10, and a 2x8

    2X10

    2 speakers always sound better to me . . . . .

I've got amps with 12"s, 10"s, and even an 8". Gotta say my ideal cabinet would be two 10"s and I'd probably go for different sounding speakers too.

Can I air one of my many pet peeves? I thought so.

Any 2x10 speaker should be aligned vertically. Stand it up!!! It costs nothing. A vertical array disperses sound horizontally, a good thing. I know, visually it appears the opposite is true.

Whichever makes it lighter. I tend to stick with 1x12s, but I’ve owned some heavy ass 1x12s and played some lightweight 2x10s.

when two of us carried the newly acquired 210 into the house I plonked it onto a 12" bin so I wouldn't have to lift it off the floor ever again...

plugged the 12" bin into the 210 and that's where it stayed.... 3 speakers is good..

    I like 12" speakers with guitars... :D

I have a couple of 1x12’s and a 2x10. The 2x10 just sounds more “spacious” if that makes sense. The 2x10 is my grab and go cabinet

Make it easy to match impedance to your amp. If 8 ohm, you have to buy 2X 4 ohm or 2X 16 ohm speakers..

My first tube amp was a Crate head with a Soldano mod through a home made 12" bin, cut down from a stereo hifi cab to the depth of the Fender cab with a new baffle.... it was also my first Tele playing through it....:)

I think it would depend on your amp and your guitar. Some amps like 12's better and some like 10's. Same with guitars.
