Yeah :D That kinda sums up the way I was thinking. This pedal has been a long time coming (it's my first real pedal) and over here, returns etc. are not so easy, so I wanted to make sure what I got was as good as I could afford!

Thanks to all you guys - I wouldn't have known how good the Whiteface RI is if not for this forum!

    Get a Wampler Pinnacle

Had a Rat 2. It was ok. Got the Wampler Pinnacle. Wow! Sounds amazing, much more versatile than the Rat and basically ended my search for a great od pedal.

Hey guys. Took me a while to get it down but my WFRI RAT arrived a few days ago. It's basically brand new and sounds AMAZING! Compared to the RAT vs RAT 2 videos I watched on youtube, I think even I could tell that the WFRI sounds noticeably better, even if its only a slight difference

Like its been mentioned here, I need to play around with it and find the settings that work best. But I have plenty to start with. I also got my new amp, an AC15, so there's a lot to play around with. Thanks again for the advice!

Scofield must have a very bright amp. I've tried that setting and I just get mud.

You could always build a RAT! I made my madbean 'Runt' to vintage RAT specs and it sounds sweet. Compared it to my black secret and big-box 90's RAT and its my favorite of the 3. The pcb's are on sale for a mear 6 bucks, and all told this one cost me about $25.00.

Agreed. Or it could be that his Rat is very bright. I had one that I needed to keep the Filter cranked and it was still brighter than unity! But for me generally unity treble is around 2 o'clock to 3:30.

OP, glad you're enjoying the pedal. Don't sell it, even if you don't bond with it at first. At some point, you'll pull it back out and it will click . . .

i set my rat with distortion at 8:30-9
    and the filter at 2-3
my amp (twin reverb) is bass 6, treble 6, mids 12, bright switch -on
this is really bright with the guitar tone knob all the way up but I crank it way down, like at least 50%

Thanks, Mark. Yeah, I'm keeping this one forever. Haha. Can't believe I was thinking of spending $200 for a modded new RAT 2 when I got this for $150...haha

Thanks for sharing these settings with everyone, guys. I'll be sure to try a few of these over the next few days!
