I was in a Zoom meeting where everyone plays or sings a song from Mozart to Rock. I totally butchered what I played. Ahhhh!
That’s the worst I have ever played in front of others including the first time I played an Open Mic.
My fault I wasn’t warmed up.

Found some old video from 10 years ago when I was first starting playing guitar at open mics.. Man it astonishes me that in my mind I thought I was as good as Jimi Hendrix!

Strumming chords awkwardly, not a man, half a child... I cringed a little, but the songs were actually well structured.. The delivery was amateurish as heck though.

In ten more years, I'll probably look back the same way at my playing now!

Don't sweat it! You'll be laughing about it if you aren't already... :)

I will be fine. It just sucks to know I butchered things I know fairly well and wasn’t playing anything hard. I played when I’m 64 because I turned 64 in October.

More playing before I play next time.

It's surprising how those Beatles songs are tricky. I learned Norwegian wood recently, and it took quite a while to really get it. I guess it's in the mixolydian mode, an old celtic/traditional theme.

I noticed that if you try to get the melody on top, these songs can be endlessly complicated. But that's why fingerstyle is so full sounding and enjoyable.

This wasn’t a work Zoom but a music Zoom. You do get to see other folks and listen to music in a safe Zoom environment.

My whole life has been messing up when it counted. Blew it on live tv, radio, weddings, funerals, sucks but that’s just how it was.

There’s always another performance, and the great thing for me was that it didn’t have to be musical.

If I live long enough I might redeem myself.

Maybe use the experience as motivation to be better for next time?

It took me too many times/years to realize what it means to be prepared to play in front of people(!). Keep on it!

It is because of the latency ! it is lagging big time, and you can't hear yourself, or the latency is jamming your playing.

If it wasn't for butchers, we'd have no sausages.

At an open mic just a week ago at a bar near where I live, I managed to get out four songs at my two turns at the mic, which is probably two more than I ever did at one of these things before.

Amazingly, I didn't mess it up too bad, bungled a few notes in my fingerpicking, but apparently, I was the only one to notice. I wasn't terribly off key in the vocals, and pulled it all off rather well.

It probably helped that the fifteen or twenty bar patrons were all engaged in a pool game off to the side of the joint and paid little attention to anything I was doing, but the bar owner and open mic host were quite complimentary, and didn't boot me out.

I played John Prine's 'Dear Abby', Dylan's 'Don't Think Twice, It's Alright', 'The Sloop John B', aaaaaannnd....um..crap! can't recall the fourth because it's all a fog to me right now.

It was a Thursday night, and I was the only player to show up. I probably could have done a dozen songs but didn't want to push my luck, so I left while (I thought) I was still 'ahead'.

I've found open mic audiences are pretty kind, at least the folks who are listening. I've never heard anyone boo a performer.

No one booed or said anything negative. But I personally knew I didn’t do well.
