Hey guys. I’ve been overrun with work recently (building other people’s nitro finished Guitars for them) but I took the urge to start a new Strat in the middle of it all.

This is my first thread, go easy ;)

I had a 3 1/2 lb two piece ash body here from the supplier and I thought it would be rude to not make something special out of it.

Once the grain filling was complete I got it sealed up with a good couple of coats of cellulose sealer. I keyed it back with 600 wet and dry and shot another few coats of sealer.

Next up, I moved onto the colour mixes. My Tobacco tinted amber was first...

I’m happy with that! This translated into this..

Sooooo... next up was the deep brown/black tinted burst mix

Yes please, that’ll do nicely!

Now I must confess... this is the body with 2-3 coats of amber tinted gloss nitro on it. Hence the shine. But it’s looking good so far!

I also did a quick mock up to see how the scratchplate looked on it. Definitely what I was after..

That’s where I’m up to now, hope you’ve enjoyed it so far!

Nice. I have one I am doing the same thing too except I am adding a little amber/red after the dark burst.

What Nitro are you using and what tints?

Thanks :) I was going to do a 3 colour burst but I decided against it. I’ll do that next. I’m using Dartfords nitro primarily. It’s a joy to mix and create new colours/tones.

There is nothing like mixing your own that is for sure. I love being able to add a little or take a little off if needed.

There must be something in the water because I'm also doing a 54/55 2-tone Strat at the moment. Hope to have it done by the end of the week.

Looking forward to seeing yours finished OP!

I’ve been very busy this week (another 80 hour week in full swing) but I managed to get a few more clear coats on the body. It’ll get cut back again for another coat or two next week. In the meantime I’ve acquired a few parts for the build and borrowed a customer neck for a mock up

I’m going with lightly aged parts. Nothing too severe. The body will probably end up being nicely craze checked too but no actual wear.

Will you be doing a strict 54 spec? 2 color was on the 54 - I don't think Fender offered the 3 color sunburst on the 54's - but I could be wrong.

I love 54 strats - especially the chunky neck - if you are going to do strict 54 specs - you will love that 54 neck!
Round string tree?
