Midnight Shift is such a hard boiled raunchy song. Holly sounds like he's having a great time with it. Such a contrast to his Peggy Sue, big hit stuff.
Sonny Curtis is the guitarist on that. Not only was he a great guitar player but he wrote some very successful songs-Walk Right Back by the Everly Brothers, I Fought The Law by The Bobby Fuller Four…even Love Is All Around (Mary Tyler Moore theme song!)

I only knew of the big hit Buddy Holly until my youtube stream. Ollie Vee, Blue Days, Ting A Ling are a side of Holly I was never aware of

Buddy’s career started in 1952 and ended in 1959-6 years! And he was 22 or 23 when he died. Look at all he accomplished.

I used to have a multi cassette set of pretty much his complete recordings. Some of the late acoustic/ vocal tracks that were posthumously completed with strings were real eye openers. Something like this I guess

He's the man.
Yes. He'd have been a huge factor in modern music, even more than he already is, had he had time to mature.

Mr. Holly has always held a place of high esteem in my family—my dad is a big fan—and influenced a lot of the guys I’ve emulated over the years. I can’t imagine what he would have done had he lived—I think he would have become a major producer and songwriter for others, besides his own music.

Because I’ve always approached his music as early and rock-n-roll/rockabilly/proto-modern country art form, I forget how much he influenced the Beatles until I listen to songs like “Words of Love”…
