Bubba TV, the Daytona 500, starts again at 1:30 Central Time. There a goin’ down the front stretch and now there a turn in’ left.

I am poking fun but while I do other things it will probably be on in the background. No, I don’t have a favorite to win or really know the names of the drivers anymore.

With identically spec'd cars and restrictor plates on a super speedway.... The interest somewhat eludes me. Except for the inevitable train-wreck result of such foolishness there is little attraction despite the attempt to hype the drama. The whole thing has turned into a rolling disaster imo. And I used to be a fan, back when you could root for a brand, or a team. Now its just different colors as far as I am concerned.
My proposed fix would be to take out the restrictors, limit engine displacement and final drive ratios as needed and let them race. Innovation and creativity should be allowed, and sponsor/manufacturer interest might creep back in.

I say, let physics be the restrictor. Death Race 2020!!!

but yeah, limiting displacement and being responsible would probably be a longer term solution....

In both of your cases you show interest which means you are at least a casual fan.

Physics: They tried that at the Texas superspeedway with F1. Drivers were passing out in the banked turns...

I havent watched a full race in probably 20 years. Still, more likely than me sitting through a football game I guess.
Casual fan? Enough to watch the "highlights" and follow the technology. I used to be interested in Daytona and Talladega especially years ago.
Theres talk of gas/electric hybrids coming to Nascar. The hardcore fans will hate that!

I’ve got it on but am just a casual watcher these days. Wind & rain are wiping out my fishing prospects today so I’ll probably see more of the race than usual.

It's raining here as I speak. I live 45 min up the road from the track, and it looks like we've got even more rain on the way behind this. May as well call it until tomorrow. Or just do what they did when I was a kid, and put on the rain tires and go racing; wooses! By the time they take the time and effort to jet dry the track, more rain has already had the time to move in....unless they actually just like burning Jet-A and waisting time. Right now, they're actually showing old Jeff Gordon-centric race re-runs waiting for yet another delay... I'd play some guitar, but my mom is over watching the race, and rain delay or not, REQUIRES complete silence. It's been that way for the last 35 years that I know of, but I'm not complaining, since she did do the cooking.

But, I'd much rather watch my father-in-law race than this any day of the week. He's a navigator on a championship winning team in South Africa, and those races have more action in 30 seconds than this does in 30 min..plus, rain doesn't scare them off either...haha.
