My lovely woman friend invited me to go see the show along with her very odd buddy Ron and another nice woman, Jean. We had GA lawn seats at a 27,000 head venue.

We got there, got in line, and when they went to scan the tickets it turned out we only had Lightening Passes. These passes cost $30 , they weren't tickets; they allowed lawn seats holders to enter the lawn 5 minutes before showtime so you could get better spots on the grass. Not off to a good start so off to customer services we went. Long story short, they were able to see that we indeed never purchased actual tickets and in light of that, we were comped 4 tickets in section 1, the VIP section!!! Go figure but what a wonderful surprise.

Other than spending time with my lady friend, Don Felder is what drew my immediate interest and he didn't disappoint. He played 1 new song and the rest of his 50 minute set was Eagles classics. He was excellent, one of the best acts I've seen.

Kevin from REO had 2 other 30 yr members of the band with him but I forget their names. I only knew 6 of the songs but they rocked them. I was very impressed. Kevin played no less than 4 different Ovation acoustics.

Styx played almost 2 hours and started with the "Grand Illusion" in its entirety. I'm not really a fan of the band but "GI" was among my 1st round of cassettes from Columbia House and I played that cassette until it wore out. That was a nice surprise. Then they played all of the hits less "Suite Madame Blue". Luckily, Tommy Shaw, who I really like, was on our side of the stage. Dennis DeYoung got far too much attention on the big screens but I guess he's the defacto leader.

The tickets, if you actually bought them, for lawn seats were only $28. The VIP seats were $95 and I'd have left happy if I would have paid for the comped seat. It was a good show.

Edited to add: For those of you that don't already know, I'm a knucklehead. DeYoung was no where to be seen, James Young did keys and vocals. Figured I'd add this here rather than retyping the night. 😕🙂

Is Dennis back in Styx? I know they had a real acrimonious split about 25 years ago.

Those are downright reasonable ticket prices compared to what a lot of acts charge now.
Perhaps James Young, guitarist?

No, the whole band hated Dennis De Young at one point.

But as it so often does, money tends to clear things up.

I’m glad that the Kevin Cronin part was good. He seemed a little iffy to me vocally recently, but he wrote a lot of darn songs !

Sounds like a great night of entertainment. I've been a big Fan of Don Felder forever. I also was a big Styx fan in my youth. I don't think that was Dennis. He hasn't toured with them since the late 90s. The guy doing his parts is named Lawrence Gouan

My uncle drove the coach for Styx for several years. He got me and my brother tickets when they came to town in '83 during the Kilroy Was Here tour. Shaw was great. He'd run down the aisles jamming on a break, stopped right next to me on one.

I've always been a Felder fan. Would love to see him live.

I love Don Felder. He and Walsh were my favorite part(s) of the Eagles.

Lady Fiesta Red and I saw REO Speedwagon (and subsequently, Kevin C) at Six Flags way back BC (Before Child)…I wasn’t a huge fan going in, but developed a greater appreciation for them that night…I’d forgotten how many great song they had.

Styx…
Um…well…
They are/were immensely talented, but…

I just don’t like them…

However, in a scenario like this I would give them a chance because there’s lots of bands that I’ve grown to appreciate after seeing them live (see my comment above in regards to REO Speedwagon).
I saw Shaw back in 1990/91(?) with the Damn Yankees…that did not improve or degrade my impression of Styx, but that was an insane show in total (see below).
