I've been fortunate enough to come across quite a bit of lumber this past year and I need to use it for something... So with my entry into the BB23, I thought I would honor the founder of the Brotherhood Build challenge with a heavily chambered mostly white oak Revstar build with a walnut fret board and binding. I have a few options for a cap... I could go with some cherry, maple, poplar or what looks like more white oak. Also have some spalted mystery wood that I might try. The body and neck will be oak though. This should be a sturdy build...

I thought of going with an original design, but I'm just never really satisfied with ones I come up with. They just look like worse versions of other guitars... So I decided to go with a Yamaha Revstar type build because it's a little different and I like them.

A friend of mine who recently passed had a Revstar. I kind of liked the looks of it, having never really being aware of it before I met him.
Sorry to hear about your loss. Yeah, you don't see them around much, but I did get the chance to play a used one at a Guitar Center not too long ago. It played nice and was of good quality.

Nice, you should build it!

Kinda reminds me of my take on the Melody Maker (sadly not finished). I used the general shape of the DC MM but made it a full 1.75" thick. I designed it for P90s which I think MM should have had to begin with 😁

Yeah I might do another budget build thread one of these days. I got another batch of free walnut on the side of the road a couple weeks ago. I ordered a moisture meter as I don't know what MC the guy who disposes of this stuff uses. I guess the Gibsonesque appointments of the Yamaha are what I like about it.

Budget? Yeah maybe but I don't think the resemblance to a PRS is an accident. So mahogany, walnut, hell even padauk would absolutely shine and be appropriate. Your call my friend 😉

Not to derail but I think Epiphone had some of the influence before PRS.

I got started on milling the wood... Not my favorite part. I don't really have a good way to make a good edge for joining the boards. I have to settle for the table saw and hand plane/sanding method. Takes a long time but works eventually. Also re-sawed the walnut for the fret board.
