Went to check on my mom today, and the truck wouldn't start when I was ready to leave. Starter would not crank:( Checked basic stuff to no avail. Probably switch, solonoid, relay, or such. Tried to bump start it, but ended up in a bad spot. Called for a roll back, at least it's home now where I can trouble shoot. Hate to do electrical in the cold, but the shop is full of the Volvo project:eek: image.jpg image.jpg Tight spot up at the house and the roll back driver did a great job getting up here and unloading:cool: At least it was a calm, sunny and not to cold today. yes

At least those old cars could usually be fixed with a hammer.

    Oh maaaaaan!

Does the horn beep? Does the radio work?

Do a voltage/load test on the battery. Check to make sure it has electrolyte.

Most likely a bad relay or bad connection.

Since I have no idea whats powering the thing or how its configured etc, I am going to wager its the proverbial "banana in the tailpipe"

As good a guess as any...

Hi torque mini starters will fry if the voltage drops, a loose connection is all it takes. This recently happened on my car
Bump starting with an electric fuel pump is not like the old days either .the fuel pump needs a chance to pump fuel. Fuel injectors require pressure,
Is the battery fully charged ? Do the headlights dim while trying the starter.. You probably know all of the normal things to check, trace it out from the battery

    '41 for the most part:rolleyes:

if the peals are under rear wheels i can do a burnout:twisted:

@Peegoo horn does a nice beep beep, radio works pretty good when you can hear it over road noise.
@Boreas hopefully I won't take a hammer to it:mad: probably just meter and wiring pliers.
@CapnCrunch the bow is wifes touch adds a bit of civility:)

Literally tapping the starter with a mallet can get you going sometimes if the starter is going out. It is not a permanent fix however...

One time I was getting gas and there was a 1st gen mustang sitting there surrounded by a bunch of teenage guys who were confused looking. It wouldn’t turn over, so I crawled somewhat underneath (it’s a mustang) and the starter is literally falling off. I could wiggle it back and forth significantly enough that they could hear it and didn’t need to hear it from me...

Your front license plate is shorting out on the weeds, or the battery cable connection needs cleaning. It's hard to see under the hood from here, and where's the snow?

guessing you'll have no trouble finding the problem & don't really need anybody else's "help". my first car was a 122 that I got from my dad in 1966. it may have been the first Volvo in AK. I owned several 544s, and a 144. my brothers both had an assortment including P1800s. I loved them all and always meant to get another. I really wanted to build a 544 as a 4x4 using jeep parts. I was sourcing the bits but things got in the way... that was the mid 70s and I wanted to go to trade school... then the years go by. I bought a 242 new in '83, that was my last one. I still keep an eye out for the oldies but they are more scarce now

P.S. like the Willys. had a brief fling with one in the late 60s. my brother put it on a 4x4 Jeep frame and turned it into a plow truck. it got ate by salt from running it on the beach as a clam rig. it weren't too cherry to begin with so the ocean didn't have much work to do
