I am going to be putting together a Tele set up for open G for my Keef playing. Which bridge pickup will get me close to his tome (though I know most of it is in his fingers, etc)?

    Thanks

Well, try to find an old Champion lap steel pickup...

    That's what's in Keef's, and that's what I put in mine....

On the cheap a Duncan Broadcaster does this tone really well. Especially with a Fender narrow panel tweed circuit style amp

A common misconception is the Champion* is a drop in fit, it actually requires rerouting the cavity.
Because of this I ordered regular Tele* bottom forbon fiberboard with smaller mount holes, So I can tap them for 6/32 height adjusting screws, or customers can also _wood mount_ , So I do not use copper/Zinc coated metal_Base plate with these, to fully simulate that Champion* pickup.
_with the base plate gone the sound is brighter_

Bare Knuckle Brown Sugar is another great option.

The Duncan Broadcaster is an amazing pickup.

If you are trying to for the Micawber / Malcolm sound: Any Broadcaster type bridge pickup will get you in the ballpark. For the neck, a PAF humbucker. Don't forget the Champ amps for recording and the Tweed Twin for playing live.

    Howdy,

Huge Keith Richards fan checking in. These days I prefer my Mahogany guitars for open G riffing: Gibson Les Paul Special and a USACG Tele. The Tele sports a pair of humble DiMarzio Twang Kings and they're fantastic. Don't overlook the affordable Twang King.

Something with no baseplate, A3 magnets and wound with 43 AWG wire to around 9.9k.

Have Don Mare build you one. Sounds like he has an idea of what your looking for.

If he won't do it I'm sure you can find someone who will, if your serious.

Or, just get a Duncan Broadcaster and you'll be pretty close.

Another misconception is that Keef dropped old Champion pups right into his Tele. He actually has his tech, Pierre, pull the pickups and rewind them to right around 10K.
I bought a Don Mare 0038 wound to 10K, and I couldn't be happier with it.
