There's something unusual theory-wise that runs throughout this tune. Can you spot it? The title of the song alludes to it.

In terms of sheer cleverness this is the best art rock album ever.

The 4 bar phrases that repeat the same 3 chords (F# E B) offset by one bar? ...
| F# | E | B | F# |
| E | B | F# | E |
| B | F# | E | B |

'Taking Tiger by Strategy' is an awesome record! Green World and Warm Jets are killin' too. There was great Eno interview in Tape Op magazine awhile back.

You got it. There's basically a measure missing in the chord progression, causing it to cycle around in 3 bars with no sense of beginning or end. Meanwhile, as you pointed out, the melody/lyrics is on a four bar cycle, so each line starts and ends on the same chord, but a different chord that in the line before.

Great tune!Includes a shout out to Jonathan Richman's Modern Lovers, one of whom later gets an oblique nod as a member of King's Lead Hat.

been an Eno fan since he was in Roxy Music...I think they threw him out because he wasn't a 'musician'. Go figure, at least they hired Eddie Jobson to take his place. I have a boxed set of his vinyl somewhere and its sad I don't have a player anymore or the rest of my old record collection for that matter. He's done a LOT of really great music and been a major influence across many genres.
