    That's French for, "the sandwich".

    Hi

Here in Spain, we call "sandwich" only those things made with artificial molded bread like this thing

I don't like that thing and don't even call it "bread". Is nasty, sweet and plastic like a chewing gum, I cannot stand it

If you use real bread or at least baguettes, we call ir "bocadillo" or "bocata" in slang... Much nicer and tastier

Let's not forget that if you ask for a roll in some places you might get a (beef) sandwich but more likely you'll get a slap.

Thinking about it, in those places if you ask for a cob you'll likely get a roll.

Oh, and I live in Wales, so that complicates things further. Here, we say "brechdan" for sandwich, as in "Ga i frechdan [the b mutates to an f, just to make it easier...] Marmite a caws, os gwelwch yn dda?" What could be simpler?

Good, good.... Let the evil flow through you and feel its power. Soon you shall turn to the Dark Side of the force and join Lord Vader. Your sith name will be LORD SAMMICH

British claim to invent a lot of things people did forever, just because someone wrote down instructions and rules. The idea bread was never used in millennia to hold any other food is laughable

Common British refrain is that we invented football because someone wrote down about how to kick a ball, as if no one in history ever kicked one before. Excuse us

And if you went south to the Midlands, it would be called a cob. I've heard them called that in Liverpool too.

Yeah, and that we do it best because we live on a particular set of islands in the middle of the north sea. Folk who live elsewhere just should have thought about where they needed to be born and really just aren't trying hard enough.

We do Jingoism better than most, I'll give us that.
