Hello all...

I read on John Mayer's emailed newsletter that he and Brad Paisley recorded an episode of Crossroads recently. (There's a great pic of the two of them in April 29th issue of Rolling Stone.) I don't have CMT on my cable system so if anyone hears when it will broadcast and will kindly record it, I will gladly pay for a VHS tape of it! I'm sure it was an amazing time!

Thanks, Adam

I'm wanting to see that pretty bad myself. Brad Paisley is an awesome guitar picker! Don't know much about John Mayer though.

I may be able to help you out with the VHS tape when it airs. Keep in touch and we'll work out a deal!!

I was suprised by John Mayer when he was on Austin City Limits recently - he can really play! I had always thought of him as a singer/songwriter type before, but he ripped into a Stevie Ray Vaughn tune and he was pretty impressive. Not on the same scale as Brad Paisley but still pretty good.

Yeah i've seen him in some different magazines and what not, but was just never interested enough to give him a listen. If he can play SRV tunes then he must be pretty good!! May have to listen to him some.

When I first heard about this "Crossroads" last mo

I was wondering why John Mayer.

I hope this is done as well as some of the other CMT Crossroads...like ZZ Top and Brooks and Dunn or Emilou Harris and Dave Matthews.

(I edited the post to delete some unkind comments on Mr. Mayer's abilities...sorry, a non-pro like me has NO room making these comments...apologizes to all...)

Looking forward to the show.

John is indeed an accomplished player.

He did some shows with Buddy Guy earlier this year which were very well received. Played some tasty blues and exposed a new audience to Buddy's music.

I just caught John Mayer in Sydney

and he is really becoming quite a performer.

He borrows a lot from SRV and Hendrix for his bluesy excursions, (but so do i :D ) and he really does cut loose.
Like him or not, make no mistake 'the kid can play'

FWIW, I saw him about 6 months ago and was very impressed then, but he has come a long way even in that short time(touring will do that to you)

I guess what i like about him is that his music strikes me as being very honest and it is introducing a lot of younger guys and girls to a side of guitar playing many of them hadn't seen (for instance in the nu-metal genre)

now if we can just get him playing a tele...

I think John Mayer is a new hope for younger guitar players. He can play and knows what he's doing. He writes solid rock/pop songs and there's nothing wrong with that.

As for him 'borrowing' from SRV, please... SRV did some borrowing himself as has every other guitar player I've ever heard. I remember when I first heard SRV and all I could think of was Albert King, Buddy Guy, and Jimi Hendrix.

I'm really looking forward to the Crossroads episode with Brad and John. I think it's a pretty nice pairing.

John Mayer is a very gifted singer, songwriter, and guitarist. I've said it before, and I'll say it again: The worst thing he could have done for respectability (though maybe not for his career) was release "Your Body is a Wonderland". It is really a wuss number and probably got him a bunch of teenage girl fans, but it is far from what he is about.

He kicks butt on acoustic and electric. I saw him live after "No Such Thing" broke a couple of years ago and he absolutely cut loose. Lots of jazz, funk, Hendrixy, SRVish licks. If you get a chance to see him live, do it! But remember, if you score with one of the women at the show, you could be arrested

Not to mention the fact that he has his own Martin signature acoustic and played on the Dave Chapelle show. He must have something going for him right?

Heck, then I would go so far to say that the Room for Squares album is a wuss album! Most of that disc has the same vibe as that song, of course that's just my opinion.
I too saw JM live twice in some relatively small venues and the live show was very enjoyable. I haven't heard his other releases so I'm no authority on the guy. Live he played some great originals and some cool covers too.

And of course the Chapelle thing was hilarious!

Well...

... I was impressed.

The musicianship was incredible! John seems a bit strange, but hey, we are all in some way or another. I think he definatly proved himself on that show. Might have to pick up one of his CD's.

And as for Brad, never mind his guitar playing, we all know what to expect there, I was actually very impressed with his singing on some of John's stuff. A lot of new country acts you would assume they were pop singers anyway, but Brad has been such a traditionalist, I didn't know if he could pull it off. I was so happy to see him do that well with it. Kudos to Mr. Paisley.
