Bought a Pro Junior Chassis. I’m going to build a PJ Head.

I met a cool Craigslist seller today. The guy had enough repurposed gear to outfit a band on the moon.

He had a Pro Jr Chassis that was screwed into a larger speaker cab and he wanted to part with it. I love ProJr’s and I’m going to make a P Jr head.

I’d like to build a head cabinet that would let the knobs face forward (Like on a DRRI) but then the tubes will point straight back. I don’t know if that’s ok. It’s probably going to be a tall slender box.

    Any advice?

    The chassis....

He had the original Fender tubes in bubble wrap. I don’t know how to date the chassis it I’m guessing that it’s older.

I’m looking forward to a table saw project in the garage. I can build a bird feeder so I think I can handle this.

I built a Pathfinder 15R Head once and it looks like a bird feeder. Good times. Good times.

I don't notice any I.C.s in there. This would be a great candidate for a handwired conversion!

Is there room in the chassis to rotate the tube socket PCB and mount it to the bottom of the chassis?

Yah but......it’s going to be a plain black box built vertically or horizontally out of number one pine and stained black.

Truth is I can barely build a bird house.

    I am stoked.

I built this Pathfinder Head from chassis that I bought from. TDPRI member.

It was like Peter Griffin attempting to build a square wooden box and screw little rubber feet on the bottom.

I have limitations. This is going to be fun.

    Pro Jr head!

There may be but I wouldn’t trust myself to do so.

I have $130 into this. I don’t want to break something.

There is that idea that mounting power tubes horizontally could lead to grid/screen fatigue/sag and cause internal components to short out, but I've never heard of this happening. You should be OK mounting them, just make sure they get some ventilation.

If you change your mind on making a head...I have an empty black tolex pro jr. cab and speaker I'm not using and would let it go cheap. I put the chassis in nice tweed cab with a 12" speaker.

I'd be sorely tempted to get the Mojotone 12" tweed cab for it. Sorely...

    I approve this build.

Never converted one to a head, but a PJ into a bigger cab is realistically all I’d ever need.

Make sure you try it into a 4x12 at some point, it rules!

I have a 59 Bassman LTD chassis in a head shell. It is oriented like your Pro Jr. My controls are facing forward in that cabinet. I have no issues with the tubes sticking straight out rather than up or down.

I like the idea! I also think it’d be cool if more amps looked like bird feeders.
