I see it if I squint really hard and blur my vision, otherwise it looks like a D and not an RThe logo Roland chose for this product line has always seemed to me like something an old-school editor might do when making a correction to a misspelled word.
As a result, I am stuck calling these amps a BORSS.
Here's what I mean:
Well, Roland/Boss is a Japanese company so I think they understand what they are what they are doing with "Ka." And I was wrong. It's a katakana character, not hiragana. Katakana is used for rendering foreign words, sort of like how we use italics. "Katana" is a Japanese word that means a long, curved, single-edged sword. Samurai carried two swords, a katana and the shorter wakizashi, which Boss probably should have used for the Katana Mini. A Boss Wakizashi. Kind of has a ring to it.
It's like those guys that get inked with non-English characters because they 'looked cool' and had no idea what the actual meaning was when they got it done.
