I shouldn’t have. Now, if I can’t figure out a way to get it from him, I’ll have to figure out a way to get one.

If he lent it out, maybe it's not his favorite. Good luck. Make a generous offer.

If you don't want to spend Gibson prices, the new Epiphone Inspired by Gibson 335 is freaking excellent for about $600. I bought one a few months ago and its great.

....and they finally got rid of that big, goofy headstock!

Ive never seen him play it live or record with it. He’s traded it away at least once, but traded back for it. I’ll play it more and let the excitement wear off a little before I go back and make an offer.

Good luck man! Just curious but is this the very 335 you're trying to get? FWIW I'm scratching my 335 itch by building my own from a kit ;) So far, so good! Can't wait to get her together so I can see what she'll be like ;)

I hear good things about the new Epis, and these look very interesting too for similar money:

I have an Orville 335 (MIJ Gibson, basically) and it is faultless, cost about half the price of a Gibby

There are a lot of good alternatives for a 335. I had one loaned to me as well, and was trying to find the resources to get one when I ran across an Ibanez that actually seemed nicer for a fraction of the cost. I'd also look at Heritage and Gretsch.

I got a used Gibson ES-339 Studio for a good price a few months ago. My first semi Hollow body and works for me, nice and basic.

Same thing happened with me and a bandmate's ES-345 about 20 years ago. Couldn't talk him out of then, and he's no longer around to talk to now. I keep telling myself that one day I'll find one I can afford.

Maybe a copy can hold you over. I bought this Grote several months ago and couldn't be happier with it. Really can't find anything wrong with it. 20211007_205654.jpg

Not trying to get it. I owned it!

As for "scratching the itch," I hand built the two on the sides to scratch the itch left by the one in the middle.
It's worth noting that mine have Adult Size necks. I found the Ric to be unplayable. Ric 360 trio.jpg

Nice man! Well good luck to you on it! I'm actually going to be finishing my build in natural so, if everything goes as I hope it does, it will look very similar to yours. Hope you can get her back!

If an alternative is in the mix I'd suggest an Eastman 486.

My Eastman T/64v is incredible but is effectively their hollow "330/Casino" type offering.
