How is the Gibson Midtown Custom?

I'm thinking of trading my tele for one this weekend. I love teles and they have been my main for a long time but im bored with them. Looking for a new sound and new inspiration. would the midtown do it? Never had a gibson other than an M2 and really dug the last semi hollow i had.

I've regretted almost every guitar that I've gotten rid of over the years. Better and cheaper in the long run to put it away and rediscover it again later.

But you are right, there's no shortage of tele's out there.

I had been feeling the same as you lately, the tele wasn't exciting me. I didn't trade a tele away but I did acquire an SG and I'm loving it. Digging the thick tone of the humbuckers. The Midtowns look pretty cool. I'd go for it.

I don't think a creative musician could ever be happy with just one guitar (or amp) in the first place. I also vote for the keep the tele and buy the next thing that inspires you, you will blend it all together.

Sure do a trade. But before you do ... measure (with meters) all the electronics and write them down on a card. Pickup kohms, pots actual kohms, caps, pickup capacitance, and guitar weight. Then you'll have a target to rebuild to later if you need too.

I have a Strat that I loved the tone of the neck pickup but I wanted to fix the bridge tone. And I wanted to mod a little like the 7-tone Strat, then the G&L S500 Bass roll off, and maybe another one or two in there. I pulled parts and didn't keep track of anything. Deciding I didn't like the S500 circuit in there I tried to go back and it took a couple of attempts to get the control electronics to bring back the voice of the original neck pickup. So I recommend to anyone that wants to do a number mods is get a second loaded pickguard setup with the mods and keep the original loaded pickguard intact. If you keep data on your Tele you can get back there if you decide you miss it.

I’ve sold seven guitars this year. It’s funny how long guitars can stay in your mind long after they leave your possession.

What? You expected no one to throw stones on a tele site?

When I'm musically stagnant (which is maybe 95% of the time) - something new always helps. I'm at peace with it.

Hold on to your Tele. Save up and buy your second guitar. In a month or so you'll switch back anyway. It's why people own more than one instrument.

I have sold the same guitar 3 times, I bought it back for the price I sold it last , it will never leave again 70 SG fretless wonder norlin era bought for 100.00 ,pawned 17 times , retrieved each time , pawned it to take my now wife out for her birthday dinner 35 years ago on our first date, it travelled across canada on tour with me

I bought a strat made many pick guards and if I feel the need to get a new guitar I swap guards and Viola I have a new guitar, nothing gets traded or swapped unless its rare or in my favor and i dont see that happening , so I love what I have
