I have a Squier Standard Telecaster from 2018?ish. The pickups in it were pretty decent, but still had a slight "muffle" to them that I think is pretty common w/ most import guitars.
I decided to grab the Palo Duro's and check them out. First of all, what a huge clarity difference. Both the neck and the bridge sound open and clear. This is sometimes really hard to explain, but for simplicity, it's like playing a guitar with a blanket over your amp, and then taking the blanket off to hear the difference.
The neck has a really nice full and round sound that brings more of the bass from the neck position out. The tone is very bell-like and VERY satisfying.
The bridge is really dynamic and responsive to string height. Because of this, it can sound either very similar to the neck pickup (not a huge notble difference when switching positions), or more chimey and gnarly when closer to the strings. I highly recommend playing with the height, as the tone really can be affected drastically in the bridge.
The only thing that I felt was lacking from these pickups was the bite from the bridge. What I mean by that is that while the bridge can definitely bring the growl out from your amp, it takes a decent amount of attack and gain to make that happen, lending itself to a slightly more clean platform by itself.
I LOVE the neck sound, as it's incredibly clear, but also full and round and juicy. I decided to test out the pretzel in the bridge position to see if it made a difference. HOLY CRAP. The pretzel has the same clarity as the palo duro's, as well as the chimeyness. However, it has a bit more mid-range bite that makes it really fun to push the amp into more aggressive territory. Most importantly for me, I feel like switching between neck and bridge pickups has enough of a sound/feel/aggressiveness that it makes me play differently depending on which I'm on. Not to mention, btw, that the middle position is now incredibly usable for me, since it's a nice balance of both tones.
Huge shoutout to bootstrap for these pickups. Yes, it takes like a month or so to get them, but damn.. so good.
