Bootlegs

    I bought a CD on Ebay of studio outtakes from a famous guitar player. I didn't realize until I got it that it was a bootleg. It was very good quality, actually a studio recording but never meant to be released. The seller then sent me his catalog of bootlegs and it was quite extensive. Just about every artist I had ever heard from and the prices were also amazing. As much as $75 for a 2 CD show. I'm kind of undecided about bootlegs. I think the concert CD's should have been sold originally by the artist or the record company but it just didn't happen back then. Now many artists like Knopfler sell the concert recordings. What's the consensus here? Anyone buying bootlegs or downloading them for free?

    i haven't bought any bootlegs, but i listen to them by the ton on youtube. i know they are bad and i hate that the artist is getting ripped off. But i am glad to hear, for instance, Mick Taylor working out on those Stone's songs in the early 70's, awesome solos that you don't hear much on their legit recordings. all that kind of stuff would be lost if it wasn't for bootlegs.

    I pull concerts and such off YouTube using a downloader that converts them the MP3's and put them on USB sticks for listening in the car.

    Yea, I don't download or use bootlegs. I agree on above about YouTube.

    to convert youtube material until my malware protection suggested I don't.
    What other Vid to MP3 converters do you recommend for Win/Android systems?

    Some bootlegs are great more so the ones recorded straight from the desk how that happens only the sound engineer can explain such goings on
    imagine Peter Grant catching you doing that

    I've used a few different ones, including the one you mentioned. It's been kind of a moving target.

    I use a Hosts file on my PCs to block ads (aka malware delivery systems).

    I have hundreds and hundreds of boots, and nearly all were from years of trading tapes, i.e. no sales involved.

    I have downloaded tons, bought very few. I love the fact that you can download them legally for free instead of supporting a market that steals content.
