the grammys are stupid and meaningless except if i agree with a selection
This!

Because what I read on this forum is the institution is out of touch if the most popular songs win (Bey, Swift, Adele, Styles) but they’re spot on if they award Bonnie. Don’t get me wrong, she is great and in the context of her career this is well deserved many times over. But she hasn’t been significantly important to modern music in decades.
I love her. But I think this was a miss by the Academy. Flame away. But Bonnie Raitt winning song of the year in 2023 is as big a miss as the whole Jethro Tull episode.

You could easily make a case for lifetime achievement. But not song of the year. It’s not a song anyone will remember outside of a few of us.

That statement works for pretty much every song that's one the award.
At least in Bonnie's case she alone actually wrote the song, she didn't need a team of writers to win like last years did. The last sole songwriter to win was Amy Winehouse in 2008 for Rehab

It's a songwriters award...it isn't for record of the year.

A shocker really, and wonderful. Bonnie Raitt won best song at the Grammys last night... in a world of Hip Hop, modern R&B and twerking...

I was absolutely thrilled to see her honored like this. I’ve met her and played with her first ever guitar player TJ Tindal here in Philly. Bonnie is the real deal of a great songwriter and consummate performer.
She was entirely taken by surprise and was so humble it was like a breath of fresh air.
I must say I was extremely disappointed to not see and rock entries other than Maneskin alone. I thought I’d see Jeff Beck and Johnny Depp’s hit record at least mentioned in new artist or new song category.
Hats off to Bonnie. She’s one of the best.
Go see her show. She kicks it.

Play on brother.

WOW!!!

imo.
Samara Joy IS a joy, and Pasquale Grasso is a monster player, already one of the all-time greats. Pat Metheny described him as "The best guitar player I've heard in maybe my entire life".

So as above it's a perennial bad award, but this year they have it right, truly something to be respected because at least she alone wrote the song.

Look I love Bonnie, have seen her live, will see her again later this year. But she didn't write either "Thing Called Love" or "Something to Talk About"* without which it's hard to imagine her current career.

Willie didn't write "Blue Eyes Cryin'" and Patsy didn't write "Crazy." Authorship by the performer doesn't make a song any better, and I notice that defense is usually absent from Taylor Swift discussions here.

*Or Angel from Montgomery, Love Me Like a Man, I Can't Make You Love Me, et al
