Can't let a Bonanza theme song thread pass by without posting the version with lyrics. I've got the gun and rope, but the "hat full of hope" has so far eluded me.

Lorne Greene~Bonanza Theme Song lyrics - YouTube

When I was playing country back in mid 80's, we would have this (Bonanza with Lorne Green singing) on tape.....before we started (first set), we'd play this thru a 1500 watt tri-amp'd PA with all the stage lights off. As it ended, we'd cut the tape, hit the lights and tear into our first song.

Most of the "country" audiences had a little trouble wrapping their heads around what we did......;)

According to a Vintage Guitar article I read a couple years back Vick Flick, Tommy T and a couple others recorded the first version but it was re-recorded for every season (union thing). There were some other versions put out on record too.

Tommy Tedesco recorded it and then overdubbed a take that was an octave higher. I play it in octaves but can't get quite the same effect.

The melody has an odd triadic structure, like it was written for a bugle or a trumpet rather than a guitar.

It originally did not have any guitar at all. Great song, great show too for that matter. My favorite as a kid.

The opening shot when all 4 of the Cartwrights were riding there horses with Lake Tahoe in the background was filmed about 5 miles from my house. If you look at Adams black hat you will see a light patch just to the right of him, that was a landslide that happened in the 1930's of 40's and the Cartwrights were alive in the 1800's. OPPS small goof.
