    Great comment!
As for the middle aged white woman slide blues genre. Which is my 5th favorite type of blues, Joanna Connor is my favorite. I think she proved a long time ago that she is NOT "generic middle aged white woman slide blues", which is a genre I can't stand by the way.

what a MONSTER. along with Nick Curran, a senseless loss, too. where would those two have been, now, in terms of talent and evolution?

    Look in a mirror.
Do you see a sharecropper staring back? No?
Then stick to Pat Boone and Skynyrd.

I dig him and have never understood the hate. The quote above is VERY accurate though. He is a marketing genius, or he employs one.He owns it all...down to the trucks that haul his gear. He owns his music, does WTF he wants, and does it all very, very well. HE SHOULD do a video about self-promotion in the music biz.

All that "marketing" is a big reason why he gets so much "hate".

I don't like his music at all. Just does nothing for me, but the dude pops up on guitar shows all the time talking about his guitar collection or his umpteenth 59 LP Burst that he just bought and he just gives me the douche chills. When he and Norman get together I can't click the "next video" button quick enough.

I've heard that LP, must go and relisten, didn't realise it was Joe.

    How good is Mahalia Barnes?

I didn't know it was him either, and I'd love to know the history behind the collaboration. I bought it because of her. I mean, she lives in Australia, is not that well known, and Bonamassa lives in the US. I had to order it off Discogs, and it came all the way from Reunion Island in the Indian Ocean!!

It's very good. She has a great voice. She drives the tunes a bit harder than the same tunes done by Betty Davis, but it's good. I have the LP version. Solid, 180 gram platters, two record set, very well recorded. Clean. Worth looking into, but you'll have to get it off Discogs, unless you're patient and go to used record stores a lot. I've never seen it in a store, and we have a lot of very good record stores in TO.

I don't have a vinyl system unfortunately, too expensive for me, so Spotify it is!

Mahalia's dad is royalty down here and also records with Joe from time to time. I've posted a clip of them (Jimmy and Joe) earlier on this thread, but here's Mahalia and Jimmy Barnes from some time back

30 years from now, there will be a bunch of 50-60 something year old milennials on a production forum getting very angry about why some guy doesn't like a 40 year old Gen Z "head" from the suburbs who sounds like a clone of marshall mathers era eminem.

Maybe they think they are people who don't enjoy his music? That would be me--but no bagging. There's plenty different styles to go around-- some for all of us.

I think Joe works very hard at what he does. I admire his work ethic, but it is kinda overwhelming. So much stuff coming out. So far hasn’t grabbed me.

Still I’m mildly interested in seeing this.

    Cheers,
    Geoff

My mom’s dead. If she has sweet lips I sure don’t know anything about it.

I think it is difficult to be a bluesman when people think you are self-promoting.

I've been reading bios of bluesmen, and found that the successful ones worked very hard at the business in all of its aspects.

I think his stage persona is almost a joke on himself, who found that if it works, it works.

Offstage, we are more used to seeing the golly-gee person in real life.

I literally have no idea what you’re even babbling about at this point.

It’s just damned peculiar that someone would lose it and get this worked up over Joe Bonamasa.

    Takes all kinds I guess.

It’a just hard to take him seriously after you see him as “himself”.

And his music is milquetoast....or did I already say that?

Chicks don't dig his playing because it's missing the musical pheromones. Blues guitar moves things-- quivers a lip, pulls a heart string, shakes a booty. His playing, as admirable, strong, and precise as it is, seems to be missing that.

I still think he's an amazing player, and I've noticed his playing has gotten more interesting just over the last few years. I'll probably watch the documentary and kudos to him for all the success he's had.
