Which do you prefer? I have both. Contour on my American standard and none on my Mexican. I like both for different reasons but I really like the big blocky feeling of not having a contour as I'm a fairly thin guy

My take on body contours is that if the guitar was originally designed with one, that's cool. If it's added to a body style that didn't have one initially, I'm not into it.

I'm probably in the minority with that take on the topic, but that's my $.02.

I'm 'padded' rather well. My only contoured guitar is my strat. It is the most comfortable when I play sitting down. Standing, I don't really notice the body contour. I do prefer the feel of the tele though.

I have a belly cut tele and it's really comfortable! My Les Paul def sticks to my ribs after a while. My older tele was a slab body, I prefer the contour.

I have both. Like the feel of the body contour but the look of the block/no contour.

I got an arm contour on the tele body I got from warmoth, currently being assembled, and I keep going back and forth on whether I like it. If it turns out I don't, that's a perfectly reasonable excuse for me to order another body, I'm thinking.
Would be interesting to hear from those who have both which they prefer.

    EDIT: Whoops wrong post!

Anyway yeah I'm not sure I get the benefits of the contour and I think it detracts from the looks a bit. I guess if you have a build that a contour would benefit it's understandable but I'm skin and bones so it's kinda just a weird look

If its a telecaster and it sounds and plays great, I don't care if it has a contour. :)

Perfectly happy without one. "Proper" guitars have never had them at any time through the centuries. Seems like putting a drinks holder and phone charger on a grand piano. I mean, you could do that, but why?

I prefer the block-type chunky look. Being a skinny bloke I guess a contour is superfluous.

I hate body contours. They change the physical relationship of the guitar to my body, making it too close to my ribs and angling my forearm back in an unnatural way. So I stick to traditional teles, 335's etc..

I have both and they both work nicely, I do kinda like the non-contoured body, as it better complements the sorta Art Deco curves of the body/neck

Contour. Not just for comfort, but it also helps lower the weight of the guitar.

I prefer my Tele as a slab. It is one of the things that is truly unique about Teles. I did opt for a heel contour though. I also like my Strat which has the typical contours but no tremolo route. I guess that I am mostly a purist with the exception of the heel contour on the Tele.

Contours are cool on a Strat. I have absolutely no desire for a Tele with contours.
I'm one of those crazy people who actually LIKE the feel of the slab-body Telecaster.

If I had to choose - it would be the vintage block of wood for me. I like the primitive feel.

I've never played a Tele with a body contour. My Strat feels okay.
