I'd never really heard of him until I was listening to ABB at the Fillmore where they announce "Stormy Monday" mistakenly as a Bobby Bland song and then correct that to T Bone Walker.
Just found a whole new source of blues inspiration ! Got to love discovering something old as something new.

I discovered him when "Turn On Your Lovelight" was a hit when I was a kid. Check out the album with him and B.B. King.

His stuff from the 50's on the Duke label out of Houston is my favorite. See what you think.

Who is my favorite singer? One of them has to be Bobby another one has to be Otis Spann and the other one might be Joe Strummer.

Anyways, the classic Bobby Blue Bland version of stormy Monday has Wayne Bennett On guitar.

This is a masterpiece of American Art

I saw him open for BB King in the mid 1980s. Front row. One of my favorite musical memories.

With the great Wayne Bennett on guitar. Duane coped a lot of the licks on Stormy Monday straight from Wayne. Bobby Bland is my favorite blues singer.

    Two Steps From The Blues.

I was lucky enough to see him in black night clubs in LA and Oakland, and at the Whisky in Hollywood, several times in the late '60s to mid '70s. He had a revue - MC, band - horns and Hammond, guitars and rhythm section, played a couple of instrumentals, a warm up singer doing a couple of then popular soul songs, then the big intro.....the Man - Bobby BLUE! Bland! Bobby looking good in a sharkskin suit and a process pomp. Boom, the hits started. I Smell Trouble, Two Steps, St. James Infirmary, Stormy Monday - smooth, funky, tender, talking, sending a message, working the crowd, ladies screaming and murmuring......the crowd interacting and talking back, call and response, grooving. Clouds of cigarette smoke, perfume and cologne smells, folks very dressed up to go out and have a good time and a big night out, stay awhile and drink and see The Man. A scene.

He brought it every time. A showman who pleased his audience.

And Wayne Bennett...with Mel Brown a couple of times. Heaven.
