Can you guys name some blues/jazz players that use a twin reverb in a regular basis or used to? If possible can you guys tell me if they play a blackface or a drip edge silverface or late twin reverb? Hey if you play blues or jazz and use a twin then then that's ok too and tell me the gear you use!

B.B. King used one for many years. He plugged his stereo guitar into both channels. Here's BB and a couple of hacks playing through Twins.

Albert Collins used the (link removed); a Twin Reverb amp with 4-12s.

If the Quad wasn't heavy enough w/4-12s, JBLs were an option.

According to the link above, debuted in 1972.

It's my understanding that BB requires either a Twin Reverb or a Lab Series solid state amp to be rented for his gigs. (and seeing as the Lab Series is ancient and not many available for rental he usually gets the Twin). Those are his top two favorite amps from what I understand.

When Robben Ford tours Europe he doesn't usually bring a dumble, I've seen him with Twins and Super Reverbs. Interestingly he sounds pretty much the same through the Fenders with a Tubescreamer, and more recently a Zendrive as he does with a Dumble.

James Solberg (Luther Allison, JLH, Muddy Water and James Solberg Band) plays/played straight into a Twin Reverb.

This gives a flavour of his tone:

+1 on Robben Ford, saw him live in the UK playing through Twin Reverb.

One thing I notice with James and Robben is that their tone really "cuts through the mix"....guess thats a TR quality.

I remember the twin as popular in Chicago clubs in the 90s as cowboy boots and hats.

Check out Fenton Robinson's recordings for a beautiful jazzy blues tone through a Twin.

Here's my 1976 Silverfaced Twin Reverb.

I waited a long time to get one, it was the missing link in my tonequest. My buddy played one 20 years ago through a Marshall 4x12 cab, giving him six 12" speakers to sonically assault us with. I just use the combo. I play my Casino through on a daily basis and it has THE sound I hear in my head. This amp makes all my guitars come alive, and really brings out the differences between them. For me the amp is more important than the guitar when it comes to tone.

As of last summer, my recollection of the Chicago Blues Festival and the clubs was that most everyone played through a Twin or a DRRI. Pretty much those two on every stage.

I've seen Ronnie Earl using a Twin (or maybe two) on occasion. He sounds pretty much the same to me whether using Supers or Twins.

I sound pretty much the same if I'm using my tele through my Class 5 or mowing the lawn.

how do these things sound at livingroom volume???

they sound good. they are clean low, they are clean high, they are clean medium.. they sound clean! put a zen drive in front of them and they sound great in your house, yard, neighborhood, county, state, region.....

The twin is kind of like a 70's pickup truck... wherever you want to go, whatever you want to haul, carry, load, move, solve... it will do it.
