I love the Blue Agave color but can't find any around in decent condition. Does anyone have both a Blue Agave Tele and a Lake Placid Blue Tele? How close are the colors? The LPB appears to be a bit darker blue, but I can't find one of them in the stores to make a comparison.

I alway think of Blue Agave being closer to Ice Blue Metallic, not LPB. Lovely color, though.

I found this one on eBay about 2 months ago. It's a mim and I believe this is the agave blue. Ive installed a lil 59 since.

Don't know if this helps, but the question came up back when I got my agave blue tele used, as I wasn't sure which one it was. I took a photo with a color chart for reference, as photos can be deceiving. So here is an agave blue tele photographed for accurate color:

Thanks, guys. The LPB appears to be brighter and a bit more brash than the Agave. Both colors look good but I don't think the LPB is a substitute for Agave.

LPB varies over the years. The current LPB is visibly "bluer" than Agave, but it didn't use to be that way. I've got an older LPB AVRI 62 Jazz Bass that is closer to Agave, or at least, is in between the pictures of Agave above and the LPB I see now in the stores. I had another blue Jazz Bass (a 91 MIM) and I really don't know which color it was---it could have been either.

That may be why I was confused. I remember seeing older LPB guitars tjat did look close to Agave.

I meant the Lake Placid Blue. I can't find a single LPB Tele or Strat to look at.

going to guess that the 62RI had a nitro finish.. that would yellow over the years and I would think make it look very similar to agave..

I agree. Here's my Agave Blue strat in poly and my Ice Blue Metallic Tele in Nitro. They're really close in color but not exact.

The Agave is metallic and seems to have just a hint of sea foam green in it in certain lighting.

I've seen lake placid blue, and it was blue. Nowhere near what Agave is IMO.

I have an LPB Japanese 57 reissue from 1985. Bearing in mind I hate blue guitars (I was offered this guitar unseen and said Id take it as long as it wasn't blue!) I think LPB is a great colour - it's the blue equivalent of Candy Apple Red, sparkly and changes shade depending on the light.

My LPB is noticeably darker than any in these pics - but that's probably to do with the flash in the photographs.

    +1

.... the agave is slightly more green than iceblue....

lpb is definitely much darker (but still on the warmer side of blue... it' not a cold blue)

I've noticed that the MIM LPB tended to be a bit more greenish up until the most recent ones.

I'm not usually a blue guitar guy, but I love that ice blue metallic.
