I love tiny amps. But the Blackstar just doesn't do it for me.

I just don't have a use for it. Its basic sound is great. But it's not loud or versatile enough to be useful for anything I do. So it gathers dust.

I also have a THR5. And frankly, any other baby amp just pales next to that.

It would be nice if it could easily be connected to a standard external cab,

You can easily install one; use a Cliff-type switching jack; pay attention to which side the switches are on, because it matters.

I've installed these jacks on a bunch of small amps (my own Micro Cube, and for others as well). Last one I did was on a Katana Mini. Here's how:

I was thinking the solar charger might work as a power supply even if the batteries weren't rechargeable. Maybe without batteries installed.
I have no idea. If it’s the correct voltage, perhaps you could use that instead of the 6.5 volt power supply it doesn’t actually come with.

Thanks. I have added switching jacks before, but I doubt I will go to the trouble with this amp.

A speaker out would have been a nice feature, but this sounds pretty damned good on it’s own so not having it isn’t that big a deal. Being a speaker fan I always wonder what my combos would sound like as a head.

I saved your instructions as a refresher course in case I ever do decide to add a speaker out, so thanks!

I’m with you on that. The Yamaha THR amps are by far the best sounding of the small battery powered amps, IMHO.

I have the Fly 3 w/ the second speaker, a Roland Micro Cube GX and a Spark Mini.
Also have one of the old Danelectro Honeytone amps, which seems more like a toy than an amp (but it is fun to mess with). But the Yamaha THR just sounds so much better than the others, more like a normal amp.
